I'll say it again: Alexandre Lacazette is the player that can catapult this team over the finish line and help us win the league. He can play in the three behind Kane and has exceptional workrate off the ball, too. According to RMC Sport in France yesterday, Atletico are currently leading the race to sign him this summer, and it's speculated they're going to bid 40 million Euros (34 million pounds). If that number is accurate, we should be getting involved at that price point. We are every bit as attractive a club as Atletico at the moment, who may not even be able to sign him if they're transfer ban isn't lifted. Lacazette said a few days ago he'll only go to a club that plays good football and that has Champions League to offer. The other clubs linked with him, Liverpool and Dortmund, haven't secured CL qualification yet, so there's a window here where if we're willing to make a financial commitment, we could be players for his signature. If we don't sign him, I just hope he doesn't end up at Liverpool. He'd be a nightmare in that attacking lineup they have.

Today highlighted the need for a creative outlet when eriksen isn't in the game

We've really missed Harry Winks these past few games. I also posted on a separate thread that for the right deal, I'd have Siggy back in a heartbeat.

Agree with this. A fit and focussed Lamela would be ideally suited to 3421, and for that reason I hope he stays, but the question will be, he still fit and focussed?
Agree with your agree. I worry though about Lamela- he's essentially missed two seasons since joining us. I really value him but a more reliable like for like needs serious consideration now. When teams park the bus, we need pace and trickery to beat a couple of players and open up space.

Having a brief look at his insta he seems to still have Spurs on his mind and is focused on his rehab. He has been posting short vids of his work outs. I very much doubt he wants to leave or Poch would want to sell. He always puts in 100%.

Im always worried about Dembele's absence and that without him we do tend to lose that springboard into attack. We've been lucky as since xmas Dembele has generally been fit and on top form which has undoubtedly helped us on this incredible run.

However, as has been noted before, we really seem to lack a bit of guile when we revert back to Dier and Wanyama. As much as I love the pair of them, neither can really dictate play or penetrate the opposition.

Now I know we have Winks breaking through and that he could be a solution for when Dembele is out but I really do think this should be our area of focus this summer. Poch chose the strength and pace of Sissoko over this last summer, I hope now that he has realised it's not the solution in games like last night. We clearly need someone who can zip the ball about a bit quicker from deep, someone who spots the runs. We are fortunate to have Eriksen, but he generally operates in the final third and when a defence stays as compact as they did last night it can be a bit harder for him to control things.

We won't/don't pay they money for that calibre of player so not happening I would think.

For me, the biggest thing it highlighted was our need to have a better footballing CM in there next to Wanyama. Someone who can set some tempo and see past the man next to him in the pass chain.

I like that we are being linked to players like Tolisso and Keita because that is exactly what we've been needing for a while IMO.

The caveat being that we do have players like Winks and Onomah with big potential for that kind of remit here already, and it did look like Winks was starting to work his way to the forefront of Poch's consciousness.

Go and sign a couple of winners! Players who have done it. We've an amazing squad, but few winners.

Who that is....but we'll never het across the line without a top winner.

You're just playing football cliche bingo really aren't you?

This team has more winners in it than any Spurs team for about 40 years. We've just set records for winning games. If you mean experience we had players with great experience out there last night like Alderweireld, Lloris, Vertonghen, Walker etc.

This team has shown more bollocks than the team Redknapp had full of "winners" who had done it like Gallas, Parker, VDV (and ones who would like Bale and Modric).

Mahrez vardy double deal?
Both huge upgrades on our squad both premiership winners and would be a good fit for the way we play imo

But still we haven't got over the line though despite all the plaudits have we?

I like Lacazette a lot, but in our current format the player from Lyon who I think would make the biggest impact on our first eleven would be Tolisso.

In a 3421 where would Lacazette play? Who would you take out Kane, Alli ? I mean you could make an argument that Lacazette is better and could be even more productive (than Alli possibly?) but they are not going to be dropped and they are both bloody productive anyway, the area we are most lacking in is CM where none of our first choice 3 (Wanyama, Dembele and Dier) have clever football brains that see incisive passes quickly.

Wanyama and Dembele di have other qualities but Dembele's ageing and injury prone.

Even with Winks/Onomah, if we bought a top drawer 8 we could try playing a 433 and play 2 of them.

Edit

I guess in the 4231, you could start Lacazette as an AM, and have Son or All on the bench, but I'm pretty sure Lacazette wants to be playing as a striker now. Like you, I hope he doesn't end up at Liverpool (or Arsenal for that matter) because I think he'd suit Klopp's team and bang them in. I'm hoping he's off to AM to replace Griezmann, where he knows they'll play him as a striker in their 442.

Agree about the CM point- and Winks will do that more and more. But we also need a tricky fucker in the final third- someone who'll make quick runs from the kind of quick passing you're talking about
