Onomah was phenomenal in England's World Cup win.
Played in front of the back four and looked like Pogba- great tackling and then driving forward.
I wasn't a fan but I've changed my mind. Poch has brought him on as an attacker but clear from this that isn't his real position.

Love the boy
another write off by so many.
Played in his favoured position
and with Poch's backing this boy could be the new Harry Kane
in terms of players that come good after slagging off.

Has turned a few doubters with this performance
but needs to start the season well and with purpose
Could be a fixture with the fading away of Dembele
by the end of the season.
Another 60 million saved

Hopefully he will start playing CM instead of CAM or LW/RW for us. Remind me a lot when Poch played dembele as the attacking midfielder, then put him back to CM

@beats1, @Trix and the range of top quality youth watchers....do we have a sense that Poch thinks Josh O can make it with us?
His end of season comments seemed positive but curious for more insight.

Yes! Just needs a chance to play in the CM position. This tournament will definitely help his case with Poch. He's really improved his defensive side of his game and I believe he's ready to start some games for us. I don't think he'll let us down long as he's paired with Wanyama/Dembele.

The only thing that will stop him is his own belief.

When he plays in that age group he knows he is physically head and shoulders above every one else and it shows.

Now its time to take that belief into the first team situation.

To be honest nothing we didn't know already about Josh. Most of those who haven't been convinced by him have seen him play in the wrong position for the first team. He's not really an AM and he really isn't a RM.

Me included, he looked fantastic today playing in his proper position.

you know he must've been good when even rawk are saying positive things about him:

It'll be interesting to see how many of these do make it and whether they will be able to play with this much confidence and ambition when they make the senior team. I'd say Walker-Peters, Lookman and Onomah have the best chance based off today alone.

Is Onomah the spurs player? Im sure they have a player with a similar name.

Yeh it's him, looks good.

yep...good player...MOM for me

Josh Onomah was absolutely outstanding today. Walker-Peters and the keeper Woodman were both exceptional too. I was very impressed with the quality on show in this game.

He's a midfielder who Pochettino doesn't really trust there and has been playing him wide. The change to a back three makes it harder for him to break through as well as I can't see him getting in at wing back and Harry winks seems to be the young midfielder who's trusted. I mean he could still make it there as he's very good, but think he's some way off at the moment.

Fair enough, I don't know too much about him. Was just impressed with him today.

and a few from redcafe:

Onomah has controlled the game so far. Didn't know he could play as a centre midfielder.

He's been excellent. Stepping out with the ball and is the player who is breaking through the Venezuelan press.

Onomah should break through for Spurs next season, looks like an ideal back up for Dembele.

Onomah looks far too good for this level

Onomah looks very good as well

Looked like a young Dembele today, fantastic performance

Hope he gets some chance in that position and we don't need to buy in CM. I think next year he will gets his chance. Anyway we have just about 5 CM if we incl Dier.

And the two go hand-in-hand - he needs proper game time to sync his game and head together and then he'll be off to the races.

This would have helped his self-belief hugely. Now needs to take that forward and be given the opportunity to flourish.

Still needs a loan spell imo; he needs proper, consistent, competitive game time to really get going.

Was talking to a spurs fan about Onomah couple weeks ago, actually said he hated him, purely because he hasnt played his best when featured for us, i therefore tried to explain that he hasn't been played in his best position and being on the wing you won't see the best of him. Not totally surprised he was of this opinion as he is a season ticket holder in the paxton end.

Might sound mad ,but he could make a great ball playing CB .certainly got the physic for it especially in a 3 .Or a DM that's how I see him going forward .I don't think he has the dynamism of a winks that can create from CM .But he is incredible calm on the ball which would suit a deeper roll ,but still with the ability to carry it forward in bursts as we saw today .

It's good to see him in his natural environment, I watched him the other day, until he got sent off of course, and again today and both times I started off thinking he needs a bit more urgency, get stuck in more but as you watch him, certainly today, you realise that he is an economical player, he gives you action not activity.
He was making good tackles and coming away with the ball and every time passed to an England shirt, sometimes almost nonchalantly, as the game went on he looked more and more like Mousa, I am, to say the least, enormously impressed.

I can see him becoming an option for us at CM next season, obviously Wanyama and Dembele are the numero uno pairing, but I can see both Winks and Onamah being trusted and able to play alongside either of those 2. The u20s tournament will have done his confidence the world of good, he did look a bit lost at times when he played last season, most likely due to being played out of position. Hopefully our coaching staff will have taken this on board and we see some Josh in CM in the pre seasons at least

Was so unfortunate to hit the bar. What a goal that wpuld have been. But what a game by him. If he can develop physically he could be a long term Dembele replacement. Proud of him, and Walker-Peters!
