Not against getting Barkley as it would improve the squad but people seem convinced that Poch will work wonders with him but it is a gamble. There is a talent in there but the player needs to step up and work hard on the training ground.

Sissoko should have in theory improved under Poch but he is still underperforming...so you can't always bring the best out in players.
true, but the thing that makes Ross more tempting is that we'll get him at a discount due to his contract.

So if he doesn't work out, we can still sell for a profit, unlike Sissoko.

But if it does work out, then we've got ourselves a bargain.

Good shout, but I still think he will cost a fair bit of money but he would as you say have a resale value so maybe a gamble worth undertaking.

What i would really like is to buy someone with real pedigree rather than gambling on potential but then we are looking at even more money.

I think for me now is the time to really capitalise on our position. Clubs around us are going to strengthen, offer more wages and look to push on. I really want us to go into our new stadium with a team capable of challenging for trophies and the club need to show ambition to keep the good player we have brought. Strike while the irons hot.

A couple of bits......

Barkley looks likely, but may drag on.
Walker will go if financials are met.
I'm more confident on Lemar than I was last week, and we have had encouragement from him but there are three clubs pushing for him including ourselves.
Mate thinks the Mawson stuff is just agents working the system, but that is just his opinion.
Nothing new on Dier.

Some transfers are 'easy'....take the possible Barkley deal, as far as we know the player wants to come and Everton have no choice so this could happen early.

More often than not though the selling club isn't so keen or wants to get a replacement in first......could be deadline day.

Like JJ said...."still 2 months to go"

How is Barkley easy when Everton want 50 million ? Fair value with only one year on his contract is around 15 million I would have thought. Unfortunately Everton don't seem to agree so if it is to be done it will likely be a last minute job.

Oh and I will just add. He says there is no value left to be had in the Prem pretty much every average Joe has a £20 mil valuation on there heads now. The academy will become more important than ever in the coming seasons.

Expected Barkley to drag on tbh. I think it might be a deadline day transfer, Levy will no doubt try to get them to cave by dragging things out. The ball is probably in our court with this one to be fair unless other teams become interested.

It will be good to get one of Lemar, Pereira, Sessegnon in before pre-season starts but I don't think we'll make any signings until the season starts personally. I certainly don't think Lemar will be in any rush to sign considering the amount of other offers he'll likely have.

Cheers @Trix

I wonder who the third club linked are. I think Juve were the other one linked. Really hope we can pull it off would be a big coup ahead of Arsenal.

No such thing as a fair value though, is there?

Completely agree, and has been for a while:
Winks
Kane
Alli
Dier
All home grown or the result of very sharp recruitment. Even Son at 22 mill looks like good business, especially off the back of the season just gone. And Waynama was just exceptional business, albeit with just a year left on his contract. It'll be intriguing to see if Everton play the Southampton or the WBA game with Barkley

That is why it is worth the risk of signing Berkeley for anything around this figure. If not on a footballing level then surely on a business one?

Fair enough - cheers @Trix .

I think if we sign Barkley it's really important that he's with us for all of pre-season. It's shown in the past how players kick on well after a full pre-season re Son with Poch, in terms of fitness etc and I think Barkley needs it.

There has to be some idea of fair value even in today's sky high market or no one knows what any player is worth. If as I said fair value for Barkley is say 15 million Levy may be prepared to go to say 20 million to get the deal done but anything more than that and he will move on to other players. I accept my idea of fair value may be on the low side in the current market but every chairman except those with money trees will set limits to what they will spend on a particular player. In the case of Barkley I would guess if Everton insist on too high a price we will wait until next summer.

Add £10m to each and you are probably closer to the truth...
