Let's be honest, all of our players are underpaid and anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded.
The quality of our players would earn them more money elsewhere, the reason is that we don't have the revenue to pay top wages but that situation will change next season and if our wages don't increase to recognize that then players will be off.
It's not necessarily greed that will push them it is being undervalued, like anyone else we would all accept what our company can afford but if they can afford more then we would feel disrespected, there will be more of this, starting with Toby's contract in my opinion.
Actually we do have the revenue to pay more. A league table of premiership clubs taken from their recent accounts shows that Spurs' wages/staff costs are the lowest as a percentage of turnover than any other club. To me that shows the benchmark set by Levy.

sorry, but on what planet would Man U swap Shaw AND Martial for Rose?
The planet where we totally control negotiations because the player has a 5 year contract. Also shaws broken and martial is out of favour. Not saying I would but that's the reason people think possible.

Walker was going no matter what, he didn't have much of a choice in the matter if he wanted to play. I admit it was hardly a punishment when you consider where he has gone and what he is now earning, but either way this was always going to happen.
It's a pity the club can't just shove players like this into the reserves. I'd stick Rose there for the next 4 years and finish his career. That sends a message. Selling them to a rival and doubling their wages is not sending the right the message. He signed a 5 year contract last year.

Unfortunately finances will dictate that he and every top player will get their wishes. What club would want a £60m asset rotting in the reserves? I just wish we could afford to write him off and stick him the youth squad for 4 years. He'll get his big money move and the only winner from this whole episode will be Danny Rose and he'll be laughing at us.

Poch has said nothing of the sort. He's said we'll bring in players, and improve the squad, but has explained why we have to wait in the window. We're not like City, we can't just spend whatever. And we're looking for players who are up for the fight, not mercenaries who just want the paycheque. Poch has been explaining the situation, not putting pressure on Levy IMO.

I suppose I'm just at a loss to explain this one. I would say it seems uncharacteristic of Danny Rose, but in truth we don't know his character. He's a straight shooter, that much was obvious in the Radio 5 Live interview a few months back and that much has been confirmed by journalists this morning. I've resolved to look at his comments as made in good faith to encourage the club to be ambitious.

So, some of his quotes should have been left behind closed doors..

But I don't think the interview is as bad as some are making it out to be. Still, I bet the club's PR department and Pochettino aren't very happy with it. One can only hope it leads to the club being more proactive in the transfer market, but somehow I feel Levy is a bit set in his ways with regards to transfers and completing them on the last day of the transfer window.

Just to add: Anyone with more than three brain cells would realise that the media would turn this into something completely different. Makes you wonder who put Danny up to it.

Unsurprisingly he didn't have permission from the club for the interview according to talksport.

As I said last night it would be wrong to just write this off as one player being a prick (even though he is with the way he has gone about this in public). This is part of a bigger problem the club has to face because:

1) every player in our squad could earn considerably more money elsewhere
2) we are not investing in our squad significantly (or at all at the moment)
3) most of our players could get moves to clubs that are more likely to win major trophies than us (unfortunately)

The same thing is probably happening with Toby in private, and will probably start happening with Eriksen, Dele, etc over the coming year or two.

If we can't keep together the squad Poch is building then of course he will question whether he should stay. He wants success at least as much as the players (probably more). If he doesn't think he can achieve what he wants to then he will leave.

This is all worst case, but very possible.

This is all about self interest. It's endemic in all that's happening in football. It's about money and simply nothing else. There's no honour and loyalty by the premier football clubs in Europe and thus little shown by the players.

I expected little else by Rose. Poch made Rose the player he is today. And yet means little.

I said in another thread that the money in football and transfer values/salaries have become obscene and ugly and once fans turn their back so will the sponsors etc.

Italian football collapsed and only more recently has revived itself.

Fans will walk. Being a season ticket holder since 1978, I fully expect that I will not renew for the new stadium. Not because I don't love spurs but because I no longer love football and what it stands for. This summers' activity has turned my stomach and made me dislike it. The only reason I renewed for wembley was because I ignored two renewal requests for crap seats and then they came back and offered halfway line tickets for considerably less.

I agree with the top half, but whilst i like to agree with the second half , i don't know if it is true. It seems that fans (on social media at least ;) ) only care about money as much as agents do. The fixation on net spending for example shows this, the amount of fans slating our ambition (despite massively improving out infrastructure -academy, training ground and stadium) and willing to throw it all away just so we can have some rich boy splashing dough around and using us as a play toy is staggering.

I wouldn't trust finances supplied by TV money either. Sky have already had to change how they do business to fight off the onslaught of streamed games. It is not a guarantee that money will be there in future.

Like Sky, Levy may have to compromise to keep players, fans and most importantly the manager happy but he shouldn't go overboard with it.

I wouldn't at all be averse to selling him after this, but the way we've gone about to replace Walker thus far doesn't fill me with great confidence as to us replacing him.

JJ now not ruling out him being sold, it seems.

Apologies if this has already been thrown out there, but hasn't Poch said much the same himself to the press in recent weeks? Okay, perhaps he used more diplomatic language. But, I'd reason it doesn't take a genius to figure out that there is currently a stand off of sorts between the football men and the money men. Is it beyond our imagination that Danny Rose has been 'encouraged' to voice his concerns to the biggest tabloid daily in Britain a few days before the start of the season?

Poch has said nothing of the sort. He's said we'll bring in players, and improve the squad, but has explained why we have to wait in the window. We're not like City, we can't just spend whatever. And we're looking for players who are up for the fight, not mercenaries who just want the paycheque. Poch has been explaining the situation, not putting pressure on Levy IMO.

I sort of understand the view of both of you. On one hand, Pochettino has said nothing wrong, out of line or controversial. On the other hand, one would be very naive if one were to suggest that he hasn't used the media this summer to exert a degree of pressure on Levy et co, but in a very decent way in reality.

Tbf it does go on to say only if we're prepared to sell him. He hasn't asked to leave either so this is a non story.

You are naive, It was all done with the intention to leave. He has criticised just about everyone, and committed the cardinal sin of going behind MoPo's back and talking to the press.

Thing is the players know the only way out is if the manager wants you out. Best way to do that? Go public, we all know Poch hates stuff being done through the media.

I think he is trying to force Poch's hand here tbh, and knowing the manager it might well work.

I agree. Kick up a fuss and he will let you go. Poch has to be clever here. One thing is for certain though, we can't offer him more money. Got to keep him now and sell next summer.

I envisage Poch and his boys roughing him up in a dark room at the training ground - South American mafia style
Id rather the greenhouse scene from Scum personally.
People using this to attack the clubs policies are missing the point here, having these views is one thing, to voice them in this way, at this time time is spitting in the face of the club, the fans, and the manager.
Ridiculously unprofessional.

Utd for £60 million would be my guess. If it is going to happen then it needs to happen very quickly and we need to start spending immediately.
