Zaha is exciting but he lacks the end product we need now.
He has a little bit of end product, to be fair. As a player Poch was (and probably still is) an ardent admirer of, and one he had very specific plans for, would it not make your balls tingle to think what he (Poch, a world class coach) could do with him?

Strange choice, given his age and relevant lack of experience, he seems a player for future, not right now. But, if he turns out to be the sort of signing other clubs make, that we then moan about getting quoted 3-4x times the initial transfer fee, then it'll be an astute bit of business.
For example, back in the day, Palacios £750k to Wigan, then £12m ish to us.

Personally, I think there are other areas that are slightly more pressing. A Pereira/Toljan/Heinrichs type wingback, one who can play right and left. Maybe a forward with genuine pace on the ball to keep defence's honest.

Looking doubtful now due to others coming instead..:D
Pinch 'o' salt and all that

Any chance it was Sanchez or Diop, with Dier effectively filling in the CB/DM position we didn't buy for?

Seems to me to be a completely different player to Barkley. Believe this was simply a case of one for the future.

Ok thanks for the hints. Things seem to be moving fast and on the assumption that we don't have all our eggs in one basket then our understanding is only as good as the last ITK or failing that hints from reliable sources

This is interesting, as both the players (Sanchez and Barkley) we have been most strongly linked too are completely different players to Diop- I wonder if there is someone extra in the pipeline that we haven't been as strongly linked too yet...

Which suggests that we are closer to securing more primary targets - whoever they may be as I don't recall any other holding midfielders linked.

Cheers jj. Good news if it means we are close to getting others. This guy must have been the back up option then I'm assuming.

Cheers JJ. Sounds encouraging, but we've been here before with Spurs. Trying carefully not to get my hopes up until these are done...... Failing miserably though.

Interesting. Thanks JJ.
Sounds like something is imminent or we have had some encouragement and we are confident of getting them over the line. I'm also reading this as we are going to use the funds in other areas as opposed to signing another DM - I can't see us signing another CM when we are still supposedly after a RB, CB, AM and Barkley. That's a lot of expenditure.

Cheers JJ, assuming other targets are pushing the budget too much for us to drop 10m on him which is fair enough, and still positive.
