Wow......he's basically belittling Martial. Tells you all you need to know about their relationship.

I think it's more him saying that he'll start one of Rashford and Martial, and the other would come on once the opposition defence starts to tire.

United scored 3 in 5 minutes after Martial came off the bench on Saturday. He seems to be saying if Rashford were the sub and Martial started, the result would have been similar.

I mean, you could also take it to mean that Rashford and Martial are so similar United don't need both, but it seems he's happy with having them as a start/bench pair.

Why does anybody want to give up Rose? That's insanity. Did anybody watch the Chelsea game? Because that's a preview of what's going to happen against bigger sides if we lose him and don't replace Walker. Martial is a pipe dream. He'd cost us £70m in this market. Levy just isn't going to pay that and nor should he. If we'd just ended up getting Aurier/Pereira, Barkley, Sanchez, Foyth, and the keeper, I'd be ecstatic. Because that's all we really need to start winning things.

He'd still be a snip at £70m.

Martial is a superb player, but the fixation on a player who we could probably only get by selling another key player is baffling. 'I'd be fine swapping martial for dier/rose'..why does signing a quality player have to mean weakening other areas.

We fell apart because we replaced Dier with Son. If we'd replaced him with Winks, things might have been different.

There's no real reason that shouldn't have worked to be fair.

It was just moving to the 4-2-3-1 that we've played fairly regularly, so it shouldn't have caused a problem.

But for whatever reason we just didn't transition into it well enough and lost our shape completely. But I don't think that means it was necessarily the wrong move, although Wanyama should probably have come off instead as he looked knackered.

Either way it would have been good to have a more direct threat like Martial to bring on, certainly better than Sissoko.

I would have replaced wanyama with winks
And I understand why, but I thought that Victor was just trying too hard because Dier was offering nothing positive. With Winks alongside him, perhaps Wanyama could have reverted to seek and destroy?

Who knows? We didn't do either.

Fair comment, the Moose alongside Wanyama is our best pairing, but it didn't quite come off. And given that this is the Martial thread, I agree that a more direct, pacy threat would have been useful.

All that notwithstanding, we didn't play badly against a very good set of individuals, who actually played well as a team. For once. Bastards.

Because it's those two who Man U want and would most likely make the deal happen.

I know the reason...I meant don't target the one player we'd have to give up other key players for. Look elsewhere in that position.

Then you don't watch us play enough

I have watched every game so obviously you can be wrong about things.

We have three high status centrebacks with Sanchez and three good defensive midfielders in Dier, Wanyama and Dembele but we very much lack players like Martial.

If he actually wants to play for Tottenham
If they could agree on his salary
If ManUtd wants to sell

Then we should pay whatever it takes in cash. He'll be that good in the future.

Why do people say swap martial and shaw for rose and dier. Honestly its a joke. Really knarks me. Dier has been sensational and so has Rose. Giving them those 2 weakens us hugely. End of. If you disagree then you don't understand the importance they are to us

Buy Martial if we can but not at the cost of losing key players and weakening the side. Our strength the last couple of years has been the all round balance of our team. It would be madness to weaken any area. We are already feeling the loss of Walker with Rose out injured. Lose both and we have lost a lot of potency.

my hunch is we took Dier off because of his yellow card. I would have had both Wanyama off and Davies for Son and Winks
