Not if he's crap in 95% of the 60% of games he's played come May.

Agree. From what we know, this is a loan clause in our favour.

If Gomes proves he can adapt to the EPL and rediscover his Valencia form, we have the option to buy him for pretty much market rate in these crazy transfer times.

If he doesn't cut it for us, then Poch will give him the Sissoko treatment and the purchase clause won't be triggered.

Honestly, surprised we are still after another signing. More surprising is no such player is talked about in media & only 5.5 hrs remaining

Well, the initial "outlay" for us is greatly diminished by getting Gomes on loan. Granted, that loan could eventually cost a substantial amount of money but it gives us more time to raise additional funds.

Andre Gomes is decent, but I would've preferred Barkley without a doubt.
I don't know if Gomes fits in the EPL. Plus he goes missing A LOT in games. And that happened both at Valencia and Barcelona

re. Gomes, I personally thought the Deep Lying Playmaker role was largely dead, with DMs with good passing range a la Matic/Herrera/Busquets or Box-to-Box mids like Dembele preferred these days.

So is Gomes a good tackler as well as passer?

Will offer us a different dimension that's for sure.

His style is quite different to Dembele IMO. Moussa is all about running with the ball and barging his way through until he gets to a point where he can play a simple pass i.e. lay it off to someone like Eriksen to play the final ball. From what I've seen as Gomes, he seems more like he sprays passes from deep, more like a Modric-style but with a bit more physicality defensively. Just to be clear, I'm not saying he's anywhere near the level of Modric, just that his style on the ball is somewhat more similar to him than Dembele IMO.

Reminds me of Ilarramendi with slightly more attacking nous ( previously thought Guti but have watched a little more now ). Just in the way he sprays passes, combined with a deft touch and some strength.

Yeah, but Barkley is literally going to be missing - for months.

If Poch could turn an average Barkley into a world beater like everyone said he would do then he'll do the same with Gomes who is a better passer and better technician.

I really trust our ITKs but it is hard to belive that 5 and half our before window shut we still don't even know "pace player" name. My guess is that the deal is dead and all the media don't even know it existed. Beside that: Gomes, Aurier, Llorente. Good job Daniel :)

Quite funny that we were screaming out for a fast little technical player last season and we would have lost our shit if Andre Gomes was the signing, he's had a bad season at Barca, he's not the first man to join an elite club and struggle and then go down a peg and shine. Aurier, Llorente and Gomes would be pretty dam good business and give significant depth compared to last season.

Doesn't help when the Barca supporters liken him to a Portuguese Fellaini with the first touch of a hungover Sissoko and are saying he is great at direct play but struggles at quick passing.

Hope the guy turns out to be the player he looked at Valencia when he was one of the hottest prospects in Europe and getting high level talent is never a bad thing. Just don't know that i see him filling a true need.

i cant see why it is such an insane window when its

aurier for walker
sanchez great potential but in a position we are very strong in
back up striker and a player who was voted the worst signing in Spain by Marca last season

dont see at the moment why that is so amazing, it is ok at best i think
especially with all the positive itk about wingers, pace, we wont be disappointed etc
at the moment (things could all change) its very average

no creative player, no Barkley, no gamechanger winger

Firstly, we haven't signed any of those in your last line YET.

Secondly, you do realise that we finished last season as the highest goal scoring team in the prem right? It's not like we were crying out for loads of creativity and goal scoring ability last season and we haven't lost anyone that contributed to that apart from possibly Walker to a small extent, although Aurier should more than cover that part off IMO.

Modric was just voted the best midfielder in last season's CL. Kroos, Gundogan, Weigl, Jorginho all huge names and very well thought of.

Edit: Not to mention Gomes' best form (ie. at Valencia) has come in a more attacking role than that anyway
