On holiday and only caught a bit of the madness yesterday.
First like to say as usual great job by the mods. Hope A & C has recovered .
Also some great info, particularly Hercules who has been particularly candid this window and although Ali Z is not on SC I think we should pay more attention as although he's not exactly giving out the most exciting info he's been pretty much on the money this window. Interesting that no one brought us Llorente's name, but could easily have been told to keep schtum.
As for my personal opinion of how we fared this window, I think the only way to judge is to look where we were at the end of the season to now. It's no use comparing where we were at a few weeks ago and being relieved etc and looking at the number of signings we made.
At the end of last season I believed we obviously needed to keep the team together, but add 2-4 players.
Most important for me was a more creative player as we rely exclusively on Eriksen. I know Lamela has a eye for a pass but he hasn't played in a year.
Equally important was a tricky, fast player to take the opposition on and get the opposition turning towards their own goal, thus opening up more spaces for others. I know it's become boring now everyone going on about pace, but the reason it's being repeated so much is it's true. It's the only thing our team really lack and until we start actually winning things and succeeding in the big games then we should strive to improve to achieve that.
I know we like to dominate possession, but there are still plenty of games where we have to play on the counter for periods of the match. That's just the ebb and flow of a football match. It's not so much an issue against most PL opposition, but against the top teams away from home and in the CL then it becomes more apparent that a bit more creativity, pace and depth in the attacking midfield department is needed.
A real shame about Barkley and typical Spurs luck that he gets a bad injury because I believe he could cover both remits I've mentioned.
On a positive note, I'm pleased about Llorente. Proven goal scorer, experienced in Europe and simply a far better option than Jansenn. Hopefully Poch sees fit to give him more than 3 minutes and the end of games and we practice our set pieces a bit more .
Sanchez seems to have all the tools to succeed in the PL and seems like a real coup.
And Aurier seems as picture perfect a replacement for Walker as you could get, so fair play to Spurs on the that one. Looks an absolute animal.
So all in all an ok window, but nothing more as in my personal opinion the two most crucial weaknesses haven't been addressed.
