Amazing the turn around on Trippier from the end of the season...

Towards the end of the season our attack was scoring goals for fun and I feel this masked Tripper's defensive frailties. I think back to the Man U game when Martial bullied him for large parts. Walker came on and immediately looked more comfortable.

Tripper's crossing ability is very good I'll give him that, but he is bit too timid and weak in challenges/ one on ones to be 1st choice RB IMO.

It's just funny to read how flippant we can be.

I still think he can be very good for us. And think the back three would help him out for sure.

Trippier is fine for this game, Aurier can play against Dortmund.

Also KWP as a left back, that's another one of those @thinktank team selections I guess.

Not me. Never rated him :p

I was yearning for a right back signing all summer and am delighted with Aurier coming in. Tripper will still play a number of games obviously, particularly against lower/ mid table clubs and cup matches but I reckon eventually Aurier provided he settles well will become our 1st choice RB.

Amazing the turn around on Trippier from the end of the season...

Against Burnley he was ok defensively until Son went off. Sissoko seemed to wander centrally a lot more and did not protect Trippier from runs from deep by their FB.

I do hope we see llorente and kane at some point (not saying this game) as i like seeing kane deeper as his hold up play is good and he has an eye for a pass.actually think hes a better 10 than alli in terms of ball retention.

I get frustrated with how quickly we turn on our players. Trippier spent a couple of seasons working hard and playing understudy to Walker without a complaint. Didn't moan or seek a way out.

With Walker playing up Trips got some games at the end of last season and did well in the team when we hammered everyone . Now his form is a bit shaky (albeit on his way back from an injury) and people want to bin him at the first chance.

How can we expect any loyalty from our players ie. Rose, Toby or Dier if we show no loyalty to them?

For what it's worth I think Aurier will be our no. 1 right back but that will be earned by whichever one of them impresses Poch day to day in training.

Trippier will still get plenty of games this season and I hope he doesn't become the 'go to' scapegoat.

Realistically is Aurier likely to play this weekend anyway? Ivory Coast play Tuesday night, so probably won't train with the players 'til Wednesday/Thursday depending on when he flies in after the game. Gives him at most three training sessions with the team.

That's why it's so frustrating having to buy players late in the window, that coupled with the timing of the internationals and that's possibly 4 games gone already without the new boys (other than 2 mins or whatever it was at the end of last game)

I don't think you'll find anyone who really thinks that it's ultimately a benefit to buy players late. Everyone knows that getting them in early is good and best for us. It's just not that straight forward.

I'd say that the only realistic solution to this is the window close date be brought forward to before the start of the season.

Trippier wandered centrally as well which was the problem. Agree Sissoko made it worse immediately but Trippier went MIA about 3 times prior to the goal. When I got home and watched motd highlights I had to replay it twice and play "Wheres Wally' as couldnt even find him at first. Was nearer the fkin penalty spot than Woods. Really pissed me off that he got caught 3 times before but nobody bloody said anything to him. Probably didn't say anything after either. No one wants to upset these little flowers anymore.

Hope the traveling support belts out a loud and rocking version of "There's Only One Aaron Lennon" after his troubles the past year.

Difficult game but they look slow. We need to up the tempo a bit. Good time to play them as all of their new signings haven't had time to settle in yet.

Siggy will score so will go with 2-1 Spurs.

Well when it comes down to it, Levy believes its better to buy late and be thoroughly unprepared to start a season

Then if not Aurier, KWP might start. Trippier left the England squad with an injury.

Yeah, that's it, he wants to hamstring his manager. o_O

We can't compete with the money clubs, and so we have to wait hoping they don't go for our targets and to try and get a clear run at them. But yeah, you're right it must be Levy wanting to make things as difficult as possible.

You'd really start two new players who've had no time to work with Poch or their new team mates and are away on international duty until Thursday, and don't know team tactics or shape? I'd be surprised if Poch is that much of a gambler.

EDIT - I would agree that would probably be our strongest line up given players time to settle and assuming form is good etc.
I do agree with you but imo Aurier and Sanchez even without playing time with us, are still better than Trippier and Dier respectively

I get the Aurier over Sanchez thing, he's previously demonstrated sustained excellent football at the highest level in Liigue 1 and the CL.

But I'm not having Sanchez over Dier. At least not yet. Dier has performed at an excellent level for 3 seasons now in the PL in a number of different positions and he' still only 23 himself still with plenty of scope for improvement. Sanchez has done it for 1 season in Europe and a poor Eredivisie at that. Sanchez actually has to prove that he's better than Dier first before he's included ahead of him.
