I agree the whole think is impressive, but unless I'm wrong this hasn't been done anywhere else? We can't be sure that the whole system isn't going to be without hitches or teething problems???

We are adding more variables that "could" go wrong, whether it's the mechanics of rolling the pitch out, or lifting the sidelines to the correct level, not to mention keeping the grass to a high standard... it would be niave to ignore the increased risk.

The technology is in use at Ascot

I love the thought that experts being handsomely paid to deliver a £750m+ project on time have got it wrong and a few blokes on a forum have come up with concerns that haven't been addressed

What should we do?

Ha! I'm certainly all for the new stadium. It's just as it nears reality, And the technicalities of the scheme reveal themselves it shows the potential pitfalls. It's for the money men to worry about, but I'd imagine the whole system would incur some costs for maintenance...

The stadium is definitely needed and I've no doubt it'll be the envy of many other clubs, but this is a complicated scheme, I hope it works as designed.

There's plenty examples of multi-million pound schemes not working to plan, and you're right I'm just a bloke on a forum, but there's no denying this isn't just a stadium and a pitch, it's more complex than that

It's big, but not that complicated imo. There might be problems (as with anything) we'll have to wait and see.

Fair enough lets just wait and see. We will revisit in August 2018 where I hope I will be forced to eat humble pie

Edmonton on coys with some good news:

Two tiers should be ready by Christmas.

Stadium is currently on time but timetable is very tight

What does that mean exactly? Two sides? it looks like three sides to me anyway or does it mean two sides completely finished and fitted out?
General question spursfan77 I don't expect you to have all the answers don't worry.

I assume it means the bottom two tiers should be completed construction wise (externally) by Christmas?

I wonder if this timetable is set as the start of next season, or factors in a possible first 7 away matches?
I doubt very much that we'd have started building the stadium with the aim of completing it seven games into the season so I reckon we can disregard that.
In all honesty neither can I see us setting a completion date as the start of the season so if I had to put money on it I'd say it would be at least a month before that with the essentials, roof, pitches etc, in place some time before that, optimistic possibly but i still think that, or something like that, is what we'd mean by "on timetable"

There will be a contingency available to play our first 3/4 fixtures away from home as happened with Liverpool last season and West Ham this season. Atletico Madrid have had the same thing with their new stadium this season, and their first home game isn't until the 16th of September.

Completion of the Stadium is programmed for early June 2018 with a month of commissioning thereafter. There are a lot building systems to fully test prior to test events starting early July. The Contract Completion date for Mace is not until December 2018 as works will continue outside the Stadium after opening.

PS the first NFL game is due on 21st October.

We've already applied for that for next season.

It is a worry. I'd be happier if they said for just 2 NFL games a season, we will stick to a traditional pitch,
and install the retractable pitch later when and if a proper franchise is signed.
We've had american football at WHL and will be playing at Wembley after these games too, and it is not ideal,
but the pitches today seem to hold up a bit better.

This roof installation seems risky too - it all has to lift perfectly or the compression ring will be destroyed - and of course everything has to wait for the south stand to go up before they start.
Of course these cabled roofs are thin and attractive, but we only have a year and the traditional steel frames are a known quantity.

I'm no engineer and risk adverse, so would have looked very carefully at these 2 features and weighed them against what exactly the objectives were. Perhaps time and money are not the most important factors with this project - "this is a piece of art, sunshine...."
