I have no problem or concerns with the technology as I'm sure the turf will be seamlessly laid and put in place looking at how the designed it and had been tested, however, I do have serious concerns about the quality of the turf after constant movements to accommodate other playing and entertaining venues.
I share your concerns, but I had assumed that the pitch would stay in place most of the time. There will only be two NFL games per year initially and how many concerts / other events? I would have thought that It would make sense for the pitch to stay in situ to receive natural light etc. and only be rolled under the stand temporarily when necessary.

Future proof  That's gonna have to be some pretty amazing wheels and hydraulics imo.

I imagine the NFL players quickly shredding anything than can rolled out like carpet.
And they'd surely want a bit of give in the surface.
The better artificial pitches today have tons of granules on them - then there is drainage and heating - they are very permanent. So I would expect the artificial surface just to be covered for concerts.

Then again, how on earth are these rails going to be exposed and seamlessly covered up again?
I'm thinking going from a football surface to an NFL one would take days to level it all out, but we are told hours.
It must be a carpet...

Having stood on a college football pitch in America the astroturf they use is really not like the ones we use over here ours are pretty solid in comparison, you walk one one of thiers and you sink into it about an inch, they must be laid on a sponge matting or something similar

How many times will it really be moved - once for an NFL game and maybe 3 concerts through the season. We always used to dig up the pitch in the close season anyway so either be relayed or rolled away or whatever...

I don't think it'll cause a problem, we have the best ground staff in the country, they know what they're doing

I just wonder how the players will get on playing on what effectively is a suspended surface, I know it's grass, but will the bounce be affected, the touch line also suspended....do think it'll have an unnatural feel

The trays are huge and super heavy, they have a load of concrete and soil in them with the playing surface on top. I don't think it's gonna feel any different to a normal pitch.

Anything that gives us a legal edge over opposition should be welcomed in my eyes - if there is a different feel then so be it. Want the new Lane to be a fortress.

When you say legal edge, does that include using the hydraulic touchline compartments to conceal opposition players so we have 1 or 2 man advantage in trickier matches?

I imagine the trays are going to be two to three feet deep aren't they? I think thats got to give a natural surface hasn't it?

I watch the cameras daily and I can see that there is so much still to be done, especially untested areas like the moveable pitch. Coupled with the fact that the construction is not done 24/7, the stadium will not be totally ready by the start of next season. Might be functional to an extent but despite rhetoric to the contrary, it wont be ready. By the way I know fuck all about construction so I am just using what I believe is a realistic judgement in arriving at this assessment.

I guess you didn't watch the video yesterday detailing how the pitch had been extensively tested at the training ground?

I did and that is what convinced me even more that it wont be ready. Its all well trying and testing in a remote location, but seeing what is involved, I think its going to be a very technical, delicate and precise project, assembling it in the stadium, compounded by all the major accessories attached like motors, hydraulic jacks etc. This obviously cannot be rushed.

We've been building trains for over a hundred years. Is it really that more complicated?

I agree the whole think is impressive, but unless I'm wrong this hasn't been done anywhere else? We can't be sure that the whole system isn't going to be without hitches or teething problems???

We are adding more variables that "could" go wrong, whether it's the mechanics of rolling the pitch out, or lifting the sidelines to the correct level, not to mention keeping the grass to a high standard... it would be niave to ignore the increased risk.

What should we do?
