Except that you're completely wrong because the n-word is derived from the french, spanish and portuguese words for "black" so originally it wasn't necessarily derogatory either. Like I've said in my other posts, Yid and the "N-Word" are linguistically and socially equivalent to each other just that one refers to black people and the other refers to jews. I don't understand why people don't get that.

Yes, they are both racial insults, obviously, but the contexts in which the n word is used by African-Americans, and yid by Spurs fans, are completely different. That's the point you continue to miss.

Forgive the source of this quote but 'you have to think of the mens rea'.

Just out of interest why are you comfortable typing the word 'yid' yet not the word 'nigger'?
Doesn't this illustrate that they're not "socially equivalent to each other" ?

I'm comfortable with saying both personally, when discussing it academically obviously, not to call people that etc. I wrote "the n word" purely because I wasn't sure what the rules were on this forum etc. and didn't want to get a ban or anything. As for why society thinks you can't use the n-word but can say yid, I suppose it probably comes down to the fact that there's more "publicity" (for want of a better word) about anti-black racism. Despite historically being persecuted as much, if not more so, than black people, Jewish people nowadays don't suffer anything like the same level of discrimination as black people, in particular in countries like America. But again, I think the vast majority of people wouldn't say yid either, it's just a percentage of Spurs fans really. Your average bloke on the street is probably just as unlikely to use the word Yid as they are the word Nigger.

I'm not talking specifically about Spurs fans though. That's a tiny little niche. Everywhere except among a certain percentage of Spurs fans (not even all of them) Yid and the N-Word are equivalent words just refering to two different groups of people.

It's not exactly a fair test is it? (assuming he's a non-black Spurs fan). An African American with no affiliation to Spurs would be more comfortable saying the n-word than the y-word.

I don't get the whole 'Chelsea didn't strengthen in the summer' position now being trotted out by Conte. They effectively only lost two players from their first XI - Matic and Costa (who Conte effectively forced out by text). And they replaced them with three players - Morata (£62M), Bakayoko (£40M) and Drinkwater (£40M). They did have other squad activity but mainly like for like e.g. Zouma went to Stoke and Rudiger came in from Roma. They also replaced their back up keeper (Carbero for Bergovic). Ultimately they are just not that great a side despite spending close to £200M this summer) with an over rated manager.

When you're at a money club, anything other than being able to buy a whole new squad of players whatever the price is enough to send you into a tantrum.

Just a club of a joke. Spent so much but still lacks strength in depth. Highlights the Incompetency when excuses were sought when things didn't go their way.

Sick of this guy moaning about lack of players and resources when Chelsea have about 50 players on loan, absolute joke.
Agreed. I'd go as far to say it's scandalous that they are getting away with it.

I wonder what will happen should they miss out on top 4 (I don't think they will). If Conte was to leave and with all of these younger players complaining sue to lack of opportunities, do we expect to see more players rejecting them?

It's absolutely ridiculous to talk about not strengthening enough as an excuse for losing against Palace. Palace's transfer business in the summer was bringing in two players on loan and buying two centre backs. They've had to play their last couple of games without a striker as they really don't have any back-up! Meanwhile Chelsea's options on the bench include an Italian international full back and a guy who has won five La Liga titles, three champions leagues, the world cup and the Euros.
