But regardless of that, it wasn't A TEAM. It was a group of very good players slung together. Teams take time to build and gel even though this lot train together calling that display a team is pushing it.
No matter how good those players are if you put that many changes out you run the risk of coming a croper.
Bit like City spending millions but took an age to gel.
Wham showed us far too much respect 1st half and stood off us. 2nd half they were in our face and we cracked.

We still had plenty of starters in the league playing though - Dele, Son, Dier, Rose, Trippier, Toby and Davies are all core players to the team. No blame on Rose's part he's been out so long and put a good shift in. Just seemed to be a bad attitude overall and lack of urgency and understanding that West ham hate us and even at 2-0 down will fight until the end.

I love Poch for what he's done for this club. He's taken us to the point where we can compete for the title. Where we establish ourselves against the riches of bigger clubs.

But we haven't a trophy to show for it. If we win the league in May no one will cry about our League Cup exit. But we said this last season...and didn't win the league. The year before too.

It pisses me off that in every league metric we've been better than Utd in the last two years but they have three trophies. We have none.

Winning habit and momentum are very important.

Another reason why this loss is highly irritating.

Especially going into manure away.

I don't think it was that at all. West Ham were disinterested and we followed suite. This meant that we couldn't even rouse ourselves when everything came crashing down. It could have a very negative effect on other games.

I'm talking about how a number of people on here have been acting, treating the League Cup like an irrelevance and making out we're going to be too busy winning loads of other way more important things.

The club is set up from the top to make money, so the top 4 is all that matters.

Many fans who wouldn't miss a home league game even at Wembley, like me, know what's gonna be dished up in the domestic cups so don't bother. It hurts thinking of those who are nowhere near home yet, who witnessed so many costly individual errors in the space of one half of football, including from Poch.

We've hardly conceded a goal all season yet contrive to allow them to score five, after being in complete control at half time in both games. This is another symptom of thinking they're a cut above when minute by minute they need to earn it to prove it.

Poch has led that attitude tbf. Too cocky, lowering the value of this cup.

Not smart. Fans adopt it and it sinks into the players' subconscious.

Seems like we just turned off at 2-0 up and then couldn't get started again once West Ham got back in it. Can't remember the last time we conceded 3 goals though.

I care and I'm sure the fans that turned up care . 2-0 up also shows we were not taking this lightly .

I feel like we are a modern day Leeds good players young team nothing to show from it but some big matches here and there
That's a very good comparison football wise.
But as a club we've new state of the art training ground, a new stadium being built and financially stable.
We all question Levy at every turn but look how we've progressed as a club.
Look where Poch has taken the team.
I think as much as I hate the result tonight we have to trust Poch knows what he's doing more than us.
Difficult I know.

Poch is racking up a bit of a horror show in domestic cup exits since joining.

FA Cup
lost at home to Palace
Spanked by Chelsea in a semi
Lost at home to Leicester

League cup
Lost away to Liverpool
Lost at home to Arsenal
Lost at home to West Ham
Lost to Chelsea in final

And don't get me started on our Europa league exit where he put out the weak team away to Dortmund. Or our poor cl campaign last season.

Poch needs to get some trophies under his belt. It's incredible to finish 2nd and 3rd in the league for consecutive seasons. But he doesn't want to have the reputation of the coach that doesn't win any silverware.

Also cant remember last time 1 player scored 2 against us in the same game

Imagine if we had gone on to win the Carabao Cup, do you think fans from other clubs would say, wow, they won a great trophy!? no, they would just say we won a shitty cup, that nobody cares about. The Carabao Cup has little prestige, and the up side to this, is that we can fully focus on the EPL, CL and the F.A Cup, have less games to play, less fatigue, less risk of injuries.

Yes we are all angry and upset about the way we lost tonight, complacency, arrogance, poch's late subs, whatever but to believe that the League Cup was the only realistic way of winning a trophy this season is ridiculous. We are a highly ambitious club now, aiming for the very top and we are getting there.

I can tell you exactly when we lost this game - early second half Son goes down after kicking the turf we finally put the ball out, Noble, for some reason got narked and it almost kicks off. That seemed to give them a passion they didn't have previously and as we never got out of 2nd gear the whole game the result thereon in was almost inevitable

People nead to relax.

Yes, we had a shit 2 half, yes we are out of the cup. But practicly every big teams are still in it, and our odds of winning this were not that great anyway.

And better to have this lesson in this cup, at this stage, then later on.

And if we were still in it, the chances of a injury to a key player is always there. Now it’s definitly not!

And this year, with wembely etc. Our squad isn’t deep enough to compete in 4 different arenas imo.

So no need to go completely bassinga, and throw your toys.....you know the drill :)

it’s not all bad what happend is what i’m trying to say

And though it hurts as hell now, a semi loss is always more crap.

Next year, in our new fortress, we will win this(y)

We're dammed if we do and dammed if we don't, had we won the league cup and finished outside the top 4, that wouldn't be considered enough to keep our top players. If we finish 2nd again with no silverware then that won't be considered good enough

Why does it have to be one or another? Surely it's possible to finish top 4 while also winning the League Cup (n)
