*disclaimer that although we are not related i do fear i unconsciously think of myself essentially as his dad*

edwards, from what i have seen (which is a fair bit this year, not as much as a lot of you guys tho) does not deserve to be in the first team squad due to performances. but, to me, id compare him to vertoghen in the sherwood era. very good, talented player, not performing because hes not happy with where he is at. edwards shows it in bursts, but there are so many disinterested touches, sloppy plays, that he could do in his sleep. you cant tell a boy from age 12 hes the next messi, have him on the verge of the first team, get a couple injuries and then having him playing away against derby u23 after a game at wembley, a game in OT tomorrow and madrid coming in midweek. just on a human level, and taking into consideration that he has had to see guys like TOB and georgiou seemingly leapfrog him, isnt that a really tough thing to deal with mentally? how is he supposed to be self-motivated for these games? another guy, jadon sancho, who edwards will most definitely know and compare himself against, was bought and given number 7 at dortmund, and then recalled from a world cup to be given his debut. he's watching these guys live his dream that he thinks hes ready for.

i am convinced he just needs a test, something to stimulate him. if thats not with the first team, give him a loan. the bad attitude rumour is ultimately irrelevant. if he has a bad attitude, he will want out cause hes not playing first team football like sancho. you arent going to have him run off his bad attitude against charlton u19s. end of the day, we want him to be his best for spurs. so im not saying just bend over, but for sure spread the legs just a littlle. if he has a good attitude, and i think no leaks about him being unhappy is a good sign of that, you still have to test him, and he can be pochettinos son but even the highest character footballers want to go somewhere where they are loved and appreciated and have a chance to be their best.

(btw, even more so than bus-conducter and itk, this was my primary reason for coming to this site for a long time. i bet there are more like me who although they dont comment or give ratings, are hugely appreciative of the work and time you guys especially put into youth football and keep everyone else in touch ((isnt it shitty that derby show youth games and we dont??)) so thank you all for that)

Jadon Sancho is on another planet compared to Edwards. absolutely no surprise Dortmund were so desperate to call him back. I think he'll make the WC squad if he puts a run of gamers together.

the part you mention about TOB and giorgiou.. sometimes its a case of just getting your head down, buying into the program working hard every day. showing the manager how committed you are, look at winks. coaches see this and the manager rewards you.

I played with Nigel Red-Coker coming up and he was nothing special at all, nowhere near the level of Routledge and other perm players that I played with. but the reports from Wimbledon from my other mate was that he was a managers dream. first at training, last to leave, nailed every training drill, hardest working player in the squad and got his opportunity

Edwards would not have signed the contract if the problems were not solved?
Depends I guess.I’m sure both parties want nothing more than for me to have a great career.Sure most of us have kids and you’ve had the “never to do that again discussion” both parties agree in good faith. But a week later they do it again. The fact he was made captain certainly shows good faith. He has played every U23 game. The fact his contract was only 2 years, for me says let’s see how we go.He is clearly a special talent ,I honestly don’t believe we are talking a ravel Morrison. But you have a feeling with poch even if it’s just a bit of laziness that would be enough to top the balance.I’m sure wil call me negative. But I’m gonna post this anyway, and people can make If it as they wish. But saw this on twitter from what looks like a straight up supporter. Was from an evening with Ledley.

At an evening with Ledley he said he wouldn't make it and pointed to his head when I asked him??”

Just to balance some of the stuff in the book. It’s very clear that Pochettino values the human character incredibly highly. When he says attitude, he’s talking about an awful lot more than someone playing up in training. He’s very aware of the influence of agents, parents, friends, etc. on young players and calls out the sense of having already made it more than once.

Another interesting point with regard to youth player integration is that for real integration to happen the first team players have to accept them personally as well as professionally.

Think it throws some interesting light on the subject.

The whole book, everything was signed off bub spurs so people needn’t get their knickers in a twist. This is also all stuff that happened a year ago.

Saw a winks interview yesterday on sky. A more level headed focused kid you couldn’t wish to meet. As far as youth attitude goes I think Kane and winks are the benchmark. Those 2 have set an incredible high standard.

If youth systems had prefects Winks would certainly have been one, it appears.

i'm completely lost trying to decipher all of this but edwards signed a three year deal in the summer, not two.

kwp has always come across that way to me too, he wouldn't say boo to a goose.

I wouldn't describe KWP that way. That makes him sound avoidant, he's not avoidant he's driven and extremely dedicated. Like Winks and Kane he avoids all the crap and shenanigans but he definitely has his own views that he's not afraid to air, again just like Kane who has had more than a few "words" with Poch. Poch doesn't mind that at all, what he has no time for is a lack of discipline, dedication and focus. Maybe that is what he's referring to with Marcus. Maybe Marcus isn't the first on the training ground and the last to leave, maybe he doesn't practice the things that he's not good at. Maybe he does allow his mind to wander and maybe he has interests and distractions outside of football. I have absolutely no clue.

How unusual, a gifted but lazy teenager with an authority complex.

This isn’t always something that’s just behavioural, sometimes it’s about brain chemistry and hormones like testosterone etc.

Edwards home life also hadn’t been settled.

I understand Poch’s ethos, I really do, but kids aren’t all the same. Understand why it might happen, but it will be a Shame if he can’t find a way to get the best out of a talent like Edwards is all.

Don’t think we should all just assume Edwards is a huge problem that is incapable of learning and changing.

Sounds to me like the issues weren’t exactly major. Sort of things Alli might have displayed for example.

Who is that captain for England... He will be lucky to play conference football when he is older. This age group is full of lads who hit puberty the earliest and come 4 years time at least five of them won't t be in Premier league football.

2-0, lovely goal. TOB perhaps could have got closer but it was a great bit of composure to find the pass and then an emphatic finish.

Latibeaudiere, I'm not a big fan of his either but disagree with your general comment.

Didn't get any minutes in the cup match against a third tier team in midweek. Not even on the bench today.
