IF.................Real Madrid and Spurs can work a reasonable fee for him, and
IF.................Gareth is willing to be paid no more than our highest paid player,
then for me its a move we must make. He knows he will be one of the stars of the Prem. He knows the club, and loves the club. Piss the weights off and get himself running again. He will put bums on seats, merch will sell. For me if those caveats are met, lets make it happen.

I honestly cannot believe how this has gotten to 25 pages....

Fee.. Wages... Injury record. Nuff said.

I understand why some people are so sceptical but something is going on and it wouldn't be going on if everything was so far out of our reach.
I never expected him to return but for Poch to even mention it there must be a chance.

What did Poch mention?

So I assume he was asked about Bale, he hasn't just come out with it.

Yeah unless he's said something else very recently that I'm unaware of. Just sounded to me like Poch being his usual diplomatic self.

Still hearing there is nothing in it myself, and it is from a good source. That said we do have a first option, and he has always said how much he loves the club. I wouldnt rile it out completely, but personally I'm still very sceptical.

He said "yes Bale is coming home if I have anything to do with it, it's almost a done deal so yah boo sucks to the naysayers".
That's what I heard anyway.
On a more serious note, I think Poch was being diplomatic as usual but not quite his usual diplomatic self, I honestly thought he was adding other options as a deflection rather than a dismissal, he may not come, we may have no chance but I remain convinced something is going on and I can assure you that nobody is more sceptical about transfers than me.

Madrid have no preference were he is sold, and will take the biggest bid. We are deluded to think that we will be the only club to either bid or be Bale's destination of choice.

You do agree that it won't be decided purely on price then.

Pretty sure there was a clause in his deal with Real that said he wasn't allowed to slag us off? Could just be saying he'll always love us to appease this clause?

I think it would be a bad deal for us, sorry. No way does he accept being on less than 100k/week like the rest of our players and his injury record is absolutely horrific. Would end up being an expensive flop, probably upset the dressing room because of the whole "I thought there was a wage cap?" thing, and would tarnish the good memories of him.

Would love him back but can't see it happening with our wage structure, unless with new Stadium comes big changes with that at least in line with Arsenal.

Even if the new stadium means we can afford to break our wage structure for him, the question is whether we really should just because we can? Is it really worth doing so for someone who will spend so much time unavailable due to injuries? Even if when he came back he was just as good as when he left (which is highly unlikely) it doesn't matter how good he is if he's going to miss 6 months of the season. If we were talking about the Bale who left us 4 years ago and putting him in this team now then he'd be a great signing and worth every penny, but that Gareth Bale isn't the one we'd be signing if you get what I mean.

Why is that highly unlikely O Zio? I know he's had a few injuries but he's not been a bad player and must have had some input to winning the Champions League three out of the four years he's been there.
