I’d love Bale to come back.
But he’d need to realise pretty soon that this is Harry Kane’s team now and he wouldn’t be top dog.
If those two could strike it up, we’d win the league.
True, but all of these things we can only speculate on. Some players might get a boost from having such a start around the place, other might get pissed off because they've constantly been told that 100k is our limit and that's final, only for Bale to swan in on 250k/week, especially if he's then only fit for 1/3 of the season but still making more than they do playing all year. We just don't know. Same as we don't know how his injuries will be etc.
It all just comes down to a gamble. I'm all for the "to dare is to do" mentality, but you still have to weight up the odds one way or another. If you think he'll come in and be the difference between us winning the title and not, then he's worth every penny obviously. But I'm personally not sure the odds of that are high enough to warrant the gamble.
I was referring to that last year at the Arsenal as one of his best years though, his transfer wasn't really my point, the fact that his injuries stopped and he was excellent was my point.
I can see Bale going the same way as Darren Anderton. He had those three awful seasons and then he played 20+ games a season until he was 36.
And we don't win anything, that's sort of the point. If he's on double Harry's wedge and contributes much less (and Alli, Eriksen) how will that go down?
Steer well clear I'd say. Invest the money in young wonderkids, it's our way.
That's it. We won the "Above Arsenal Award" once and the "Top 4 Trophy" twice. A match day squad of 18 players now is a mix of players who were at the club when Pochettino arrived and players who were bought as mature, experienced players. Then there is the occasional appearance of a younger player and of course Dele. So not only are we not achieving a whole lot in terms of trophies, but we actually aren't successful in finding young unpolished gems and turning them into shining stars either. It's actually by now a myth that what we do is buying young kids who go on to play a lot for us.And we don't win anything, that's sort of the point.
It might actually go down well because players want to win things.
Sorry Lemon but I just don't get the idea of steering well clear of a top player if you can get him.

Presumably he'd have a medical and we would have information on previous injuries, we wouldn't go into it blind. He's only a top player when he's on the pitch. When he's in the physio room he is nothing more than a huge drain on precious resources.
I'd be far more interested if he could stay out of the treatment room without doubt. As I have said before we don't have the financials to carry a player like Bale long term, and that is the biggest issue, how much game time will he actually get for the money he would cost.
Are you basing that on anything or just hoping?

Whilst I would adore a team with Bale in it, I just can't look past the burden he would bring.
I just see Kane significantly out performing him, then his agent (rightly) knocking at Levys door saying Harry must be top earner, then Dele and Eriksen also potentially saying 'well we add more to the team as well...'.
Suddenly £70m fee and £50m in wages rises again (if we end up paying £50k extra to Kane, Dele and Eriksen, that's £7.5m a season, or 3x 4year contract is £30m extra). Then Son's agent wants an extra £20-30k a week after hearing the new wage scales...
It's the inter-related implications which make me think there is absolutely no way a seasoned businessman like Levy would sanction it (though maybe the sponsorship deals may make it viable, that I have no idea about).
That's all going to happen anyway if we stay as a champions league regular club then the players will want more money.
