Let's hope Poch agrees with the RB decision. It's easy to feel that way right after dropped points, but I really think we need someone to come in and bring some new energy and spark up the team right away. Even though he has been injured Barkley was good from that perspective. I'm a little worried that summer is too late, especially if we miss out on CL football and our targets depend on that.

I'm having trouble seeing the CM we could get that "everyone would prefer to RB". We are not getting Goretzka, and I can't think of another CM we could realistically get, that would be better than RB.
I'm open to suggestions

Not going to play the guessing game but been linked with a RM cm other than modric

What's the use of spending big in summer when we buy jaded players returning from WC duties, and will have to spend the next 3 months learning Poch's ways when we will be playing Europa. By the time the new buys are ready, we'll be so far behind top 4 that we'll be consigned to another year in the Europa.
Using the same logic, what’s the point in buying in January? 3 months to learn the system means they’ll be useless until April.

We can't presume that with the opening of a new stadium next year that suddenly the club will spend big I just can't see club policy changing.
Also until it is confirmed we don't know that we will be playing Europa league admittedly it looks likely that will be the case but there is still the hope top four can be secured.

So not getting Barkley, Poch's preferred choice for some time. Even though this is as close to a potential steal as anything. This plan B better come off, or Levy risks alienating Poch irreparably. I'd love to know what's really going on, but until then I'm just going to assume we have this all worked out, just hopefully not in the way we had Sissoko worked out

What a complete and utter farce.

Can't wait to miss out on this 'priority' target in the summer now when we don't have CL football to offer.

Poch must be fuming. And if seeing Sissoko perform like last night isn't enough to take a small risk on RB then jeeeessuuuus.

We need to back Poch now and show some ambition - otherwise it won't just be Poch that starts becoming disillusioned, I could see Danny Rose type feelings manifesting in others too - especially when they see the investments that other clubs are willing to make.

The only thing we can comfort ourselves with is that there must be a good reason or at least you expect there to be one, if that is the case poch I'm sure would accept that and look elsewhere.

I can accept it if there is a good reason and, most importantly, Poch accepts it as a good reason.

I don't accept that we have no need to strengthen our squad in January though.

We may need to, but as many trusted posters have mentioned, it won't be happening this window. Which is a shame but I hope if the board wants to continue playing the long game, that it pays off eventually and we don't get caught cold by others moving faster.

I don't see us having a massive spend up in the summer either. I won't concede CL is lost by any stretch, but it makes those tough games we have, must wins. Too many dropped points against the dross in the league. Something that I would hope would be different if we had another option.

We have an opportunity to address weakness this month. We should do it. No point waiting till summer especially when there is a World Cup around the corner

Surely it's worth paying more for a player now to help improve a position/area we're weak in to improve our chances of getting top 4, surely?

Surely you can see the advantage of having a player who’s settled in and ready for a full preseason?

I agree we do need to strengthen this window but we won't and that's probably going to frustrate fans and the manager because of the way we operate.

A lot of disappointment regarding Barkley, and believe me I feel the same. Facts are we just aren't going to gamble on him right now because of his injuries, and he is desperate to play in order to try and make the WC squad. Chelsea clearly can afford to take the risk as they have lots of previous for buying players that end up hardly ever playing for them, and they just write them off if it doesn't work out.

Seems like having achieved or over achieved 3rd then 2nd, now we are happy to drop out of the top four meekly and mildly without the fight and impetus that an ambitious signing could give us.

We cannot depend on Dembele because no one has a clue when he breaks down or available. Winks also hasn’t shaken off his ankle injury. I fear Wanyama could also have a similar season. So will be Lamela, So will Rose. Toby could even be on same boat, who knows.

We cannot have injury clout hanging over head but question why Dier or Sissoko is playing. Situation is so obvious. We need to stengyhen squad. If it’s not Barkley let’s go get another proper player.

No, we're obviously not "happy" to drop out of the top 4. So much nonsense being spouted this morning. I bet if we tonked West Ham there wouldn't be so much drama about Ross Barkley.

I think we know how this story ends from experience. You know that situation Poch mentioned recently (which he didn't want) where we target the young player who blows up out of our reach after a great world cup, it'll be that situation.

Levy is Uncle Owen, there's always another harvest to wait for...

And no, I don't agree that beating West Ham would have changed this.

Assuming the player from Watford is Richarlison and not a re-signing of Gomes/Kaboul, I'd be a little bit underwhelmed. He's got potential, but not exactly a Salah type, is he. Be interesting to see what his price tag is.
