I’m assuming Herc is referring to two separate players, the second being Richarlison. I do wonder if the first mystery player who we have almost wrapped up is a CM or am AM. Would go some way to answering the question of what position Poch saw Barkley occupying.

This is where one starts to worry that old problems are resurfacing despite our best manager in a long time.

We managed to pull £30M from nowhere to sign Sissoko
Pochettino has on numerous occasions described the Sissoko signing as driven by Daniel Levy
But then we don't seem to be able to find any money to sign Ross Barkley who has apparently been Poch's number one target for over a year

Was Ross Barkley about money?

Im sorry but if Barkley is fit enough for Chelsea to come back in for him again even after he spurned them at the last minute in the Summer for us, then this injury is just an excuse for Levy not to spend the money. Instead, he just saved Chelsea some money.

It isn't, it's what you're choosing to assume.

Yeah he nicely saved them millions

This is my strong opinion!

If we for whatever reason, don’t secure our targets between now and summer, Poch will not hang around. He would see out his year in the new stadium, then be gone. And Daniel cannot do much else. I believe our Daniel senses this. So let’s wait and see.

My opinion fwiw, he will be fully backed.

And rightly so

At some point he must get tired of Sissokos and GNKs when you ask for Balde, Zaha, Barkley etch.

Makes you wonder why we don’t sell Sissoko and buy RB and still secure the ‘other player’ in the summer. That’s how you improve the squad short term and long term. We are crying out for something different from midfield which RB could bring to the table.
Agree with you Breezer, but you also know why. Don’t put it out there though ;)

If the player chooses another club (Balde) that's one thing but when you muck the player about or dither that's another thing and I'd certainly back Poch in that scenario too. Big big summer for Levy.

if we wait till summer and miss out on UCL footy, its going to be so much harder, plus having to play games next season after playing Europa on Thursday nights is when we used to be shit

such a huge step backwards

United, Liverpool and even ourselves have reverted back to Europa football before and still regained CL footy, so I don't foresee it like we will never have CL footy again or a huge step backwards, it's mostly just a setback. To prevent it from becoming a step backwards we need to go for it a bit more in the transfer market if we are to keep up with the pack and go on and win stuff, we need real quality on top of high potential, hopefully this player Hercules is referring to is of that calibre, someone who will come in and significantly contribute from the get go.

We barely ever get our first choice targets, i'm never confident with us until the player is on the OS wearing the Spurs shirt.

It would be incredible short termism from Levy not to back the manager.

Having said that, there are also plenty of good academy players that can be integrated into the squad and Pochettino has so far refused to use them. He's getting a bit like Conte, wanting millions to be spent on areas that could cost nothing to improve by using what you already have.

"Rest assured that there is a player all but tied up in similar position, that is likely to cost a good few bob, for summer transfer. I am told that if we had a choice, everyone would opt for this player."

Must be Modric then.

I'm having trouble seeing the CM we could get that "everyone would prefer to RB". We are not getting Goretzka, and I can't think of another CM we could realistically get, that would be better than RB.
I'm open to suggestions

It's better to not go down that trail of who it could be. Someone will guess a player that everyone hopes it will be, it'll then turn into excitement and it'll turn out to be a completely incorrect guess. It could be a number of players. Save yourself and wait to see if it materialises.

I’m prepared to almost write off this window, I know the ITKs have been saying that Levy will spend big this summer, but in all honesty it’s something I have believed in for a while now, we have been very frugal the last few years, Levy is probably the smartest chairman out there, I truly believe we are in for an epic summer.

What's the use of spending big in summer when we buy jaded players returning from WC duties, and will have to spend the next 3 months learning Poch's ways when we will be playing Europa. By the time the new buys are ready, we'll be so far behind top 4 that we'll be consigned to another year in the Europa.
