agreed, a zillion things could happen between now and the summer and any supposed verbal deal isnt worth shit really, its hardly legally binding, look at what we did to RB, looks like we told him to wait then didnt bother

Exactly, wasn't Remy tied up for the summer all those years ago? Martial a few years ago, Keita this? Means nothing when we are one of the poorer/tighter players in the market.

Now if it were a pre-contract that would be a different story.

Barkley with 1 leg is a better option than Sissoko.

Chelsea obviously don’t share our concerns over his injury.
They can also afford to throw money around like there's no tomorrow. (That statement is definitely not an attempt to excuse or defend our club's poor transfer activity, or non-activity, over the last few years.)

I never get this "january isn't the best time to buy" line. Deals are negotiated all year round. They can just be completed in the transfer window. Summer or winter. In regards to when a deal can be completed there is no difference.
True, but what they mean is "January isn't the time to buy a player to move that window, because clubs are midway through their season, and thus will charge more."

As for deals done for the summer - I'm sure that happens, but there's the risk of injury etc.

Agreed. And that's what Poch was alluding to a few weeks ago:

"We were talking about how important it is to identify our targets and have them at the club in July when we start pre-season.

"If not, it's so difficult for them to affect and help the team. And then during the season, you're going to pay."

"Dele is a very good example that you need to anticipate and today we are at a club that needs to anticipate. We cannot be reactive because if we are, we are going to lose."

Considering the amount of groundwork we appeared to have put into signing Barkley, and the apparent determination on his part to come here and work with Poch, it is very strange that we’ve decided to pass on signing him for literally half the fee that we paid for that notorious shithouse Sissoko.

Either Levy is taking being tight to new, uncharted levels by refusing to pay a fee for someone who he could get for free in the summer, or there is something else at play that we’re not aware of. Maybe a bit of both.

He’s low risk though isn’t he. It’s not like we’re talking about some £60m plus transfer fee (which is what we’d be talking about if he had 3 plus years left on his deal)

£15 fucking million and we’re passing coz he’s been out for 4 months or so. Let’s sell Lamela and Rose too in that case.

If he turned into a sick note it’s not like we’ve splashed out loads. Christ we lumped £30m on Sissoko and his wages probably aren’t to far off what Barkley was after.

Curious as to what changed between August and now it’s not like his recovery time has been delayed, he’s back in full training and Chelsea seem ok with the medical.

I don''t know, but i thought the hamstring tear was a pretty serious injury. I think there are medical reasons for this decision.

If it was really serious he wouldn’t be back and it’s not like it’s anything we didn’t know back in August so what’s changed?

Tobi is going to be out for longer with his hamstring. Should we sell him when he returns?

Is RB really that good? Loads of noise as an up & coming youngster a few years ago; been playing regularly but nothing to shine like Dele last season; so why is everyone so upset about not signing him?

I think he's overrated cos he's English.
A few years ago, weren't they saying he would be "the best English player in a generation", or comparing him to Gascoigne, and so on? Can anyone really say that he has fulfilled his early promise? No, although being in a poor team with poor managers hasn't helped his cause.

JJ has said numerous times that Poch really wanted Sissoko.

And Poch seems to like muscle over brain and technique so I don´t doubt it. Just look att the midfield triangle yesterday with Dier, Sissoko and Alli.

Are you suggesting that Barkley has a (fertile) footballing brain?

He may have many qualities as a footballer, but an intelligent footballing brain isn't one of them: even his coaches at Everton concede that point.

That, of course, doesn't mean he can't develop one over time - but at the moment it's a weakness in his game.

I am sorry but for 15 million its insane that we have not done it thats nothing in the current market really starting to worry where we are going this season.

We need about 3 players if we are to get into that top 4 but we dont seem to be moving.

And he said more recently that he thought Poch would be ok with not getting him. You can't give one as evidence whilst disregarding the other.

But surely it is strange to one day say we really want him then two days later say we don't.

Either new info has come to pass such as new target identified or an injury or we have not been able to tie up the deal and acting like we were never interested.

ITK says it's injury related yes.

There is a big difference. Hamstring surgery is rarely required. It appears limited to complete ruptures or to remove scar tissue from chronic hamstring tears. RB has what is called a Grade 3 tear. In serious cases a Hamstring avulsion can occur when the hamstring muscle, tendon are completely torn off from bone and to treat this repair, surgery is required. I suspect this may be the extent of RB's injury. The muscle is never the same again.

Look at RB's post operartive scar here if you think this was a normal tear.
