I'd rather we strengthen where we need to than bring in positions we are already set for, in the hope that someone else adapts. Eriksen is already very effective at what he does now, I'd rather compliment that than move him and hope he can do a different job as effectively. We have shoe horned enough players in in the past to know it rarely works out for the best.
I do agree with this sentiment. In the summer I thought another big goal threat was vital (someone like Martial) but the continued rise of Son and the signing of Lucas has altered that somewhat. I think a playmaker would be a good signing but they are not easy to find either.
That said if there is a perfect storm and you get the opportunity to re-sign Bale I'd still be up for it, he is elite and that is what would push us over the edge in so many ways on and off the field IMHO. That said I appreciate he is also a huge risk on many aspects.
I my opinion Dembele has proven this season he has still got it. I really think Eriksen has the ability to play in there too, especially against weaker sides. He plays most of the game in those spaces these days anyway.
I think I'd prefer this over any permutation of a new DLP:-
--------Dier/Vic--------
--Eriksen----Dele/Dembele
Bale--------------------Son/Dele
-----------Kane--------------
We actually used that midfield shape in our big wins over Madrid and Liverpool - albeit with 3 at the back and Son/Alli supporting Kane, but I think it could work as a 4-3-3 like City play. We shape up like this in possession when Dier plays anyway.
