I'd rather we strengthen where we need to than bring in positions we are already set for, in the hope that someone else adapts. Eriksen is already very effective at what he does now, I'd rather compliment that than move him and hope he can do a different job as effectively. We have shoe horned enough players in in the past to know it rarely works out for the best.

I do agree with this sentiment. In the summer I thought another big goal threat was vital (someone like Martial) but the continued rise of Son and the signing of Lucas has altered that somewhat. I think a playmaker would be a good signing but they are not easy to find either.

That said if there is a perfect storm and you get the opportunity to re-sign Bale I'd still be up for it, he is elite and that is what would push us over the edge in so many ways on and off the field IMHO. That said I appreciate he is also a huge risk on many aspects.

I my opinion Dembele has proven this season he has still got it. I really think Eriksen has the ability to play in there too, especially against weaker sides. He plays most of the game in those spaces these days anyway.

I think I'd prefer this over any permutation of a new DLP:-

--------Dier/Vic--------
--Eriksen----Dele/Dembele

Bale--------------------Son/Dele
-----------Kane--------------

We actually used that midfield shape in our big wins over Madrid and Liverpool - albeit with 3 at the back and Son/Alli supporting Kane, but I think it could work as a 4-3-3 like City play. We shape up like this in possession when Dier plays anyway.

I honestly don't know where I sit on the getting Bale back debate.

However, I am loving some of the double standards in this thread.

Lots of posters saying 'don't want him back, injury prone, 29 year old crock, not worth justifying the fee/wage etc...'

However in the Toby thread, who is potentially a 29 year old crock, who hasn't played as many games as Bale this season, saying we should break the bank and Levy should give him what he wants

Only in SC :)

But we already own Toby.

Semi off-topic: Bale's obsession with golf (just one of us :)) starts tonight on Youtube with Mark Crossfield. Think they're in Bale's garden where he has 3 of the most iconic holes in golf. Videos will be here, at 19:00 UK time i believe.

Seriously, utter clickbait. Obviously whislt in China and receiving a great reception, Bale is going to say nice things about the place. The one real snippet of info (if true), is that Bale would snub Manchester United because of Luke Shaw's situation (according to the article they share the same Agent).

Now... Bale is no Luke Shaw and would be straight into the matchday squad/first Team, BUT Mourinho has had issues with his stars this Season and whilst Bale might feel more confident in his ability to lock down a starting place at Manchester, his Agent probably won't be 100% pro this and that shouldn't be ignored.

Realistically I think Bale stays at Real Madrid next Season, unless Madrid insist on selling, and then frankly right now, it's anyone's guess where he ends up.

I'd hardly call F365 clickbait, one of the few balanced and reasoned webzines out there. But yes, speculation is speculation.

Balague, Poch's biographer, said it's a non-starter on Sunday Supplement. You've got to feel he could get a bit of info on this from Poch if there was something in it.

I'd love Bale back but...

That's just romanticism on my part, remembering those match winning performances of yesteryear. Has he still got it on a consistent basis?.

The way I see it, Bale is what I would class a luxury player. Doesn’t track back all to often, regulrly sidelined through injury and would command huge financial commitment regarding fee and wages.

I'm sure the financial big hitters could handle the risk, you know, the luxury of paying a player top dollar, but who might not be fit enough to play at numerous times throughout the season.

I don't think we're in that league as of yet. If we were going to be pursuing this amount of financial commitment I think we'd be looking for a little more than what Bale offers.

On his day...world beater. I just question how many of these day's he'll be available. Huge financial risk.

Conclusion: Luxury.

Always thought Bale would have a spell as a United player before coming back our way. They would have more chance of paying his wages. Would love Modric or Bale to return to us....money the problem factor IMO
