Assuming this comes off and Hazard stays, you can consider Chelsea another team that has significantly improved their starting XI, even with the keeper situation.

We can't stand still.

Agreed but if they lose Courtois and replace with Butland that is very underwhelming and they did not look that great at the back!

I do not think we will stand still

Don't get too down on this, with only tenuous links to him, it was probably never on anyway.

Agreed - A CM3 with Kante flanked by Jorginho and Kovacic is quite a midfield. With Liverpool signing Keita, and to a lesser extent Fabinho, and Man Utd buying Fred there have been some big midfield improvements at the top of the Prem. We need to strengthen this department in the next two days, otherwise us standing still is actually moving backwards in reality..

Yeah I don't think they have the CBs for a solid back four, but that 3 in front will help. Striker is possibly an issue to with Morata. That midfield would take them up a notch though.

Yes but the question is why wasn’t it?? We have champions league, we have a new stadium, we have smashed our wage structure so what possible reason is there for not even seemingly being in the race to sign a top player in the position we badly need?

Our midfield looks very weak in comparison to all our rivals currently, it was an area of strength when Dembele and Wanyama were fit.

To think we spent large parts of the summer laughing at the 'state' Chelsea were in. I Hate this summer.

Whenever I hear that I want to believe but I know shit like this will always happen. Arsenal and Chelsea just seem so jammy compared to us.

If he does go there they’d have an awesome midfield on paper. Fml.

Why would it be pointless for us? He'd improve us...

He's certainly going to improve Chelsea this season if it comes off

I'd rather we focus our attention developing our own players, not Madrids.

If we did loan him he'd just waltz back to Madrid after a year and we'd be looking for another CM. It would be different if it was a genuine world class player, but Kovacic isn't that just yet.

He is a top player, probably regarded that way too, I would have loved him to be a Spurs signing, I said as much at the start of the window to someone here. I have no idea though if anyone at Spurs wanted him, if I had that kind of info I wouldn't be here, would I?

If it is a loan, would it not make some kind of sense he might be included in a deal for Courtois?

they will do well in midefield battles and keeping possession but i do not see many goals coming from that midfield

I get where you're coming from, but if there's a chance to improve our squad, even just for this season, we should take it - we won't bring in a better midfielder than Kovacic this summer
