This would be a fairly big deal to complete for Thursday with the biggest club In the world .

If anything was seriously happening the press would've been all over it by now I think

It's amazing how much more quickly things seem to get done when there is a deadline in sight, but I tend to agree.

HY and Gards have both mentioned him and no one has shot it down (not that they'd probably need to) so maybe we have had a look.

It may simplify the process a bit that it is not RM's deadline day.

They probably get £10-£20m more from a PL team than a european team however which is their incentive.

However they do seem to want the player to stay so might be awkward for any potential buyers.

Was there anything in the Ozil deal to Arsenal before it happened?

Yeah there was alot of press spec that Wenger was trying hard for him but ozil had no intention of moving. Until he was forced out a couple days before deadline

Wikipedia has him signing for Arsenal on September 2nd for what thats worth, but I didn't follow the site back then but it seemed to come out of nowhere.

Yeah he signed late but the stories of arsenal seriously courting him date back to August of that year , easy to find on Google don't take my word for it.

I was chatting to Greg Dyke a few months after that window closed and he said that Arsenal were told they could have one of Ozil, Benzema or another (maybe Di Maria?) but didn’t know which one would be available until very late.
Wenger had been pushing for Ozil but would have taken any of them (obviously).
Not sure how much of a bullshitter he is. In all the times I met him, I never got any Spurs ITK! Mainly moaning about England matches.

I recall that window. I believe there was something about them having a few potential options when it came to signing a Real player

Kovacic for me would be an unbelievable signing! If the latest news is true of him wanting to leave indefinitely then there literally would be no reason why we wont be interested especially at that price.

This could potentially be a signing that will without doubt elevate the team and the quality of play in every game he plays.

If he supposedly rejected Man Utds advances then boy does he have his head screwed on! Under poch he will thrive and im sure he knows that too and i wouldn't be surprised at all if our beloved Luka gives him a glowing reference.

Anyways back to reality.... We have 3 days left ffs and if Poch and Levy played their cards and dealt us Kovacic? I would be ecstatic!!lets see what happens :nailbiting:
I agree, there is no way that we would make these types of signings anymore. Wasn't there also ITK around the time of Bale that the perceived level of signings that we got with the bale money wouldn't be replicated any time soon? I can't see us going in for promising youth nowadays in the Eriksen or Lamela sold, let alone an established player like Kovacic.

Sanchez and Son have been that type of signing since then.

Exactly what type of player are you thinking we will be after if they aren't a promising youth or an established one?

How many big players? United is out. Barça is a non-starter. City does not make any sense - if he wants out to play more.

Who is bigger right now? Not Chelsea nor Arsenal. Liverpool have no money to spend.

I could see him wanting to go back to Italy - but that is not the same as a bigger club pushing Spurs out of the way.
Yes, Italy. Also Germany, perhaps PSG. Lots of other options. I want to get excited about this, but experience smacks me upside the head and tells me to stop dreaming...

...although dreams are free!

I don’t think both were as well known on the world stage as Eriksen and Lamela who have been touted since their late Teens.
Son was, Davinson wasn't, but he played just one season in Ajax in which they reached Europa League final, so we can't say he was unknown either.

Journeyman players like Jay Rodgriguez, Rondonand even our on Llorente and Sissoko or opportunistic signings of players who weren’t even rated that high by lots of people such as Toby, Wanyama etc. These were all signings where the opportunity came for us to sign on the cheap and have worked out well, they may have been a risk.
