We're fucked imo. New stadium to get used to, injuries a-plenty in the one area of the pitch where we really should have strengthened, manager and players potentially upset at a lack of signings, fans in a similar boat, every other team in the league strengthening, tired players just returning from holidays after a gruelling world cup and season before that. We're easily the worst-off of the big 6 and it wouldn't surprise me to see us dropping points all over the shop, especially once CL and cup games kick in. I think those thinking we'll finish 2nd are way too optimistic

We're not fucked we have a very good squad. If we can get toby and rose back to their best and keep our midfield injury free we can get top 4. It will be difficult but is possible.

I agree with you. Think City and Liverpool are best placed with the players used to a system under coaches who've been there a while. In L'pool's case they've added key signings to the squad, and their squad is looking pretty good now.

Think Utd, Arse and Chels will have challenges. Utd seem to be in disarray; unhappy coach, some players unhappy with the system and the coach. New coaches at Arse and Chels; both will have to adapt to the PL and the players will have to adapt to new coaching styles.

We'll be there or thereabouts, but obviously would be in better shape had we reinforced the squad in key areas, like CM, this transfer window.

I really hope not. If they're happy with 5th or 6th then before you know it, it will be 9th or 10th. Some teams outside the top 6 are showing serious ambition. If we don't then we could even fall behind the likes of Everton and West Ham if we aren't careful.
That's the gamble they have taken by not investing in the team which has certainly made us a laughing stock in the eyes of the media and rival fan's, I must admit I never thought I would see the day that the club signed no one.

You’re insane if you think Levy’s happy without the CL revenue and exposure while he’s trying to pay for the stadium.
Well that's the gamble he has taken by not investing isn't it this is a huge risk that could blow up in his face the only one in the top 6 to buy zilch.
The others all got stronger while we stood still that can't be right but if poch gets 4th and somehow keep Kane fit for a whole season then that truly is a miracle to behold I wish him luck.

City had a pretty much perfect squad. Mahrez was not a necessary signing but still hard to see anyone getting close.

Liverpool were probably the 3rd best team in the league. They were better than us last year and by strengthening key areas I expect they will go one better and finish second.

Chelsea have strengthened meaningfully and added two very high quality players. This year they no longer have a manager trying to get himself the sack and they no longer have CL to contend with. Unless they lose Willian or Hazard before the end of August they will be right up there.

Man United have a great squad and tremendous firepower, they don't need to sign anyone to challenge. Their only issue is Mourinho and his temper. If they sack him and get Poch in early they will have a good shot at the title...otherwise I don't think they have the motivation right now. Nonetheless they will finish in the top four comfortably.

Think we will be fighting it out with Arsenal for 5th place. The others in the top 6 already have comfortably better squads than us.

I expect a few of Toby, Rose, Dembele, Lorente, Sissoko and Eriksen to be sold by the end of August weakening us further.

Think Poch will be at Utd or Madrid by the beginning of next season at the absolute latest, Levy has screwed him.

In any case even if we keep it together and somehow finish in the top four (which I highly doubt) we won't win anything and at a minimum, Poch and Eriksen will go in the summer.

After the ticket price rises and this joke of a summer I think this will be my last year as a season ticket holder, I don't want to pay ever rising season ticket prices just to fund an increase in Levy's salary. I want to see ambition on the pitch...we don't have it.

Hopefully we can do a Leicester!

Liverpool weren't better than us last season. We dealt with with them at home, and should have won away. We were the only team, apart from City who took it to them at Anfield, and we did way better than City did to challenge them on their own turf.

Re the rest of your post, I get the frustration. But there are challenges for every top team which we'll see play out this season. Utd fans aren't happy with the TW either. Let's wait a bit before sending Poch to Utd or Real. And aside from that, I agree, Levy fucked up!

Yes agree will be fighting it out for 5th or 6th as i can see injuries and lack of quality overall getting the better of us as the season goes on, unfortunately we will not do a Leicester nor are we likely to soon so we need to forget that completely.
Don't blame you for giving the ticket up why pay premium price for a club that struggles to bag a trophy or shows much ambition in the transfer market only to line their pockets.
I made a decision not to get a season ticket this year as i wanted to see how the first year went and I'm so glad I held off after the way the summer has panned out.

Interesting fact; Toby. Lamela, Moura, Wanyama, and Winks started 39 PL games between them last year. Huge, if they can have a significant role this year.

People massively overrating Chelsea in here.

Haven't got the defenders to play a back four effectively. And I think they're gonna take a while to adjust to Sarri.

People can't see past their frustration of not signing anyone to remember that we have a really good squad. I'm very confident of top four.

All depends on our start I reckon. Win the first few, build a nice lead and I can see us holding on to one of the top two places. If we have our usual start (lots of draws, losing to top 4 teams 1-0) it could be a long season.

Also their striker(s) aren't consistent.

People always do this, overrate teams based on their summer activity.

I think 4th-5th imo. Liverpool strengthened and they can blow away shite teams. Utd can grind through shite teams and City can blow away anyone. Just depends how the other 2 get on and how thin our squad gets stretched.

Don't particularly rate anyone the goons bought as better than what we have, Chelsea will be interesting as they should be very strong on paper now but as someone has pointed out, they have deficiencies with a back four. So it wouldn't surprise me to see us above both of those again if we manage to not have a load of injuries.

I think we'll still do well, relatively speaking, but obviously we are missing that CM craft in particular that could have helped in the big squeaky bum games. If Toby is truly back in the fold however, his composure would really have helped in some of our crunch matches last year so that's a positive at least.

When our team is confident, motivated and in form, we are devastating. We beat every team we played last season at least once except for Man City, Juventus (who we definitely should have beaten) and er...West Brom. We went on a 14 game unbeaten run in the league between the two Man City defeats. We topped the Champions League group of death and are the only side to ever beat Zidane's Real Madrid in the Champions League over two legs. Our away form was superb last season and was bettered only by Man City's. Had we not screwed up some of the early games at Wembley when adjusting to the new stadium we'd have easily finished in second.

However, good as this team can be, it is a confidence side. When heads have dropped in the past, we can be absolutely awful. Think May 2016, October 2016 and November 2017. There was a bit of a wobble towards the end of last year when I think key players were knackered. You might say that's the same about any team, but I find it really obvious when the likes of Alli, Eriksen, Dembele and Son are just clearly not enjoying their football. And what I worry about is how well the players have taken things. If they are bothered about no new signings or just happy to continue working with their current team mates. If they are disheartened, and early results are poor and the WHL crowd start getting angry about why they have paid so much more for their season tickets...things could spiral very quickly.

If we win the first two games though then this will all be forgotten about.

This place, like anywhere works in trends, you can understand the fans being down and fearing the worst so the predictions of our demise are expected but we win the first two matches then suddenly things look rosy again, same fans will probably be predicting a top four finish and a trophy.

Guess just the way things work.

our huge weakness is over dependance on Kane and Eriksen. If either of them suffer serious injury/loss of form , we suddenly look very ordinary.
