So with Pochettino coming out saying Top 4 and CL qualification is more important that silverware, we know financially it's better for the club, but personally nothing beats a Cup win for me.

What say you.

Top 4 (reluctantly). Nobody wants an empty 62k brand new stadium when we regress to having to play FC shdkdksnsjd in the Europa league when we cant afford to keep our best players. No CL would set us back 5 years. We wouldnt necessarily lose Kane/Dele etc but you can bet your bollocks we couldnt afford to pay the calibre of player to continue improving, whereas any of the other top 5 would act like a football club and invest in the team.

Steady growth and consistency with CL qualification is all that matters right now, irrespective of the media narrative

If you keep achieving the former, you will eventually get the latter.

It's not necessarily true that the reverse follows.

It's as simple as this for me

Players want the Champs League more than they want domestic cups, I reckon. They also want more cash, which the Champs League gives you.

I think it's actually very straight forward

Premise of the question of flawed it's not a choice between them.

Okay, technically that's right, but in reality Poch has selected weakened teams in the cups because he's keeping one eye on an upcoming league fixture.

I think you know what the OP is getting at...

I don’t think it necessarily has to be one or the other but financially it’s a no-brainer. To fans you obviously want the cup semis and finals but you also want the big Champions league nights that we have enjoyed so much too.

Tricky.

Right now in our club's history, we need Champions League football and a decent naming rights package/deal.

Once we have those things, we can structure our stadium debt payments for the next couple of decades and financially plan with more accuracy for future transfer windows and spend on player wages.

To be honest, it's not that difficult to understand yet the media need a "narrative" so they've gone with "Spurs NEED to win a cup".

Yes, yes, very good, we've heard it before, can we move it along please...

Depends on the situation of the club.

If we're Everton, Watford, Wolves, Leicester City or West Ham - a cup win is always the priority because the chances of making the Top 4 is so little. If we're Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal or Spurs - I think all these teams prioritise a higher league finish than (even) an FA / Europa League / Carabao Cup win.

Gone are the days when the League Champions would receive the title and a pot of money, the only other honours being the FA Cup or Littlewoods/Rumbelows Cup. Now the prospect of playing in the Champions' League and the pot of money that goes with it far outweighs the 'glory' of a cup win. That's just nostalgia.

Perhaps, in a few years once we are in a new stadium, continue our form and have a strong second XI, we may be in a position to fight on all 4 fronts.

For me, for now, Top 4 is the key. Keeping our manager, our best players, maintaining our financial future with the income from the CL is super important at this transitional period for Spurs.

Silverware but NOT at the expense of top 4 at this stage of our development as a club.

Exactly.

Essentially I don’t want to see us finish top four every season and never win a trophy. I also wouldn’t want a domestic trophy most years and never get top four.

There’s no reason we shouldn’t be capable of doing both.

We’re fairly regular semi finalist in domestic competitions, so you’re only talking 1 more game to win a trophy which shouldn’t put out top 4 place into jeopardy.

Indeed, was based on Poch's comments and cup team selection, FA Cup especially as that has really broken up.

For me at the moment Champions league is the main priority. The stadium problems couples with the of a naming partner( how closely is the relationship between the stadium naming rights and the delays in the new stadium) has meant that we couldn't invest in the squad. That meant hoping that barring injuries we could compete on various fronts. But the injuries problems we have faced has forced his hand, he had to look after the number one priority for the club going forward for next season, and qualify for next seasons Champions League.
In all aspects that Poch has had to deal with its quite absurd that there is talk of banters being unveiled and a walk out being planned. Its not the environment we want to foster regardless of monies Levy has not given him.
Its been a frustrating season thus far, but i think it so important to get behind the team, in this moment of doubt.

Both would be nice. But given the choice, I would rather finish this season fourth than win the FA Cup and finish fifth.
