The thing with Wan Bissaka is that he's a superb defender. We got very little change out of him all evening. 1 on 1 he relishes the duel and the challenge and usually comes out on top. The problem with his game from what I see is that he's not done anything going forward.

Spurs tend to sacrifice some defensive quality to allow for ability to get forward and contribute to the attack when we target FB's. AWB is looking a bit like Ashley Cole to me at the moment in that he is superb defensively but lacking in attack. Cole couldn't cross a ball to save his life, it drove me crazy when watching him play for England. In fairness though, it didn't stop him being considered one of the best LB's to play the game and at this point I would happily take a rock solid defender with potential to improve in attack than the opposite. Finding a player with a perfect balance of the two is very rare and ultimately expensive.

Some have mentioned Youcef Atal from Nice but he seems like the flip of AWB to me. To read up on him makes him sound a lot like Serge Aurier in that he takes a lot risks defensively and I think Aurier has had to adapt that part of him game here. He's far less of a gambler in the tackle than he used to be.

As I say, I like what I see from AWB and if we want to target an RB in the summer then he'd be the guy I'd go for. Young, english and already a great defender with room for improvement going forward. That's a real solid base to work from for Pochettino - the fullback whisperer.

Every match I have seen AWB in he has been one of their strongest players. I fear United will be in for him before we get a sniff. Our new Stadium though must give us more chance, especially if we make Top 4.

If United want him, we won’t be able to compete. We are a big club, and we are going places, but United are United.

He looked good last night, and if we want him we need to get in early and hope he hasn’t already been felt up by the bigger clubs.

Highly unlikely we'll get him, but...

I recorded the French Cup match between Lyon and Rennes the other day.

That N'dombele sort our midfield right out. The driving runs forward, at one time, in the space of 4 minutes, twice he broke from deep, beast mode through midfield, breaking the lines and slotted 2 perfectly weighted passes for Fekir to latch onto and get shots away.

I knew he had strength and driving runs, but I was also impressed with his decision making and deftness when arriving in the final third.

That wasn't the point I was making now was it? But seeing as you brought it up, I think he could easily do better at a bigger club. I don't think he got a fair crack at United (for a variety of reasons), but in a team that's struggling most of the time there's going to be spells where he gets dragged down. He's easily got the tools and I'm not sure what people expect from him, he's playing at Palace FFS, he's easily too good for them, he scores almost a goal every three games, gets assists, creates chances and often has a massive effect on their overall performances. You'd have to assume his goals/assists numbers would improve in a better team. He's exactly the sort of player we should be looking to sign. If he were absolutely tearing it up we'd have no chance so yeah, I'd be quite happy to sign him, it'd be no more of a gamble than signing any other player.

The inconsistency tag is certainly a little unfair. His biggest issue is his fitness IMO but that's another story. When he plays Palace do far better than when he doesn't. Before last night he'd scored 5 goals in as many games.

I don't think it was a gamplan to wind him up last night but it may have become one when we saw how rattled he was. I think Sissoko was tasked with helping Trippier to manage him because Sissoko is very strong and athletic and that is needed when trying to corral Zaha.

He's a cracking player and I'd love us to sign him but his price will be incredibly high (too high IMO) and I do wonder if he just likes being the big fish at Palace. Not sure he wants to try another big move in his career after the Man Utd debacle.

I think the 'big fish' thing may well be right, he's had a couple of opportunities to force a move if he wanted it (according to media haha)

I like him as a player, but the £50m-odd it would take to get him could be better spent elsewhere.

Of course. It'd be a gamble. But you can say that about virtually any player though. Except maybe Messi :D
There’s just other areas of our team that need big money spent on it, and spending that much on a slightly flakey forward with an inconsistent end product just seems like madness when we desperately need a CM who can pass the ball forward and an Eriksen replacement.

I love Zaha but my concern would be his cost vs his age, I imagine Palace would only let him go for a silly fee and if we're looking at 70 mill then I think Levy wouldn't see the value in it.

I'm fairly confident that we could do that to if necessary. One doesn't mean we won't do the other. I think we're in for a nice transfer window. Gimme the rainbows :D

IMHO, Wan Bissaka isn't best suited to what Poch wants from a RB. He's an excellent defender but not productive enough going forward, and when you add in the likely price Palace would put on him, and the HG premium, I'd expect us to look elsewhere. I'm sure Poch could improve his attacking play but it's a high price for a player that needs plenty of work to become what we need. I'd like us to have a go at Meunier as a decent all round player.

It's very hard to judge him as Woy sets his teams up so conservatively. I'm sure AWB would improve in the final third under Poch, but I doubt we'll be in the running for him as the bidding will get too hot anyway.

Cross Zaha off the list after that display last night ? Next door to useless I thought.

Those same Palace fans that don't rate AWB highly, said they would be devastated if Zaha left. As far as their fans are concerned, Zaha IS the Palace team.

Yes, he was poor last night but not helped by Hodgson's ultra defensive line-up.

I don't get all this AWB is not good going forward. He's completed more successful dribbles than any other defender in the league - https://www.football365.com/news/forget-trent-is-wan-bissaka-englands-long-term-right-back

He might not have looked good against us as we completely dominated but conversely in our side he would have more chances to attack and dribble.

Saying all this I don't see us signing him due to the fee Palace would demand and the competition we would face. He has massive potential though.

I understand he's a local boy an' all, but if they can get £60m for him, they should do it and buy a proper striker and a couple of young players in attacking positions. Their whole team lives and dies by what he does, it almost is suffocating them.

Only Kane earn more at Spurs than Zaha does. And he'll be a squad player here, riding the bench for first of all the much better Son. Then there's the 60-70m price tag. There's better ways to spend the money in my opinion. I'm not convinced he's better than Lucas, his flaws will be more visable at Spurs where he won't be allowed to be the luxuary player.
