I really, really want Jack Grealish. Not only is he class as fuck, but he just seems to have that bit of grit about him, and from all reports his leadership at Villa has been excellent this season. Looks a lot more mature than the callow, arrogant kid that he seemed a few years ago. Genuinely think that not only would he fill a need, but he would be great under Pochettino and an excellent addition to the squad.

He’s been so good the last couple of months, he seems light years ahead of anyone in that league. I think he’d do well for us, although we would need to take in to account he’s coming from two season in the championship

Which is probably better than someone who has spent their whole life/career in a completely different country altogether.

He'd be a super signing.

Oh yes, I agree. My point is I can see some seriously unrealistic expectations from the off if we did sign him, I’m talking Gazza level of performances expected as standard from some!

You missed the bolded part in my reply...and the italicized part.
Ah, is that something hardline Brexiteers say? I’ll be honest, I’ve avoided as much propaganda as possible (and quite successfully I think) and just tried to see the facts (or things that resemble facts) buried by all the crap (from both sides) during this messy process so your joke was wasted on me . I should’ve probably been quicker on the uptake.

@Ossie85 what makes you think Kalvin Phillips wouldn’t be up to it?
Boy has been superb this season and in a playing philosophy very similar to the one our manager is purported to value most.

Why do people keep mentioning Grealish as a CM? He's never been a CM and he doesn't play CM for AV.

He may be thought of, or reported as as an AM (and LW/RW) but he plays literally everywhere. He is the one who knits everything together for Villa. He drops back, he tackles back & wins possession, he picks the ball up from deep, drives forward & makes things (everything) happen. And best of all, it's also very often him that is arriving at the end of the pattern of play that he initiated.

I can't speak for anyone else, but that's why I personally keep suggesting, and will continue to keep suggesting Jack Grealish.

It might be the only time I can give my opinion on a championship player as Leeds games are shown on tv here because of Bielsa.
I think Phillips is average at best. He is benefiting from Bielsa, but he doesn't really got what it takes to be a top player imo. Most of Leeds players are overperforming imo, due to Bielsa and the way he makes players move. Clarke and maybe Roberts would be my only picks from Leeds

Isn't that what Eriksen does for us?

*Did not would. Not looking for a row either but how familiar are you with probability? I'm guessing not very. We could repeat this experiment a thousand times and 999 of them may result in a different outcome which would not justify the choice. You understand that right?
We already have a grammar thread so I don’t think we need a semantics thread but...

When you say it « may » lead to a different outcome, are you
1) making a tautologous statement about all outcomes that aren’t certain
2) implying that the good results we had this season were incredibly unlikely and that we got away with it for reason X or Y
3) something else altogether ?

Modric was once labelled a simple attacking midfielder, in fact, that’s where we played him to begin with. He ended up running games from deep alongside Tom Huddlestone...

People forget that it’s more or less the same group of players they had from last season. Bielsa has not brought in a dozen new faces. He’s just got them playing well

One thing is for sure - we need a fair few players.

right back
midfielder
back up striker / forward on the wings
midfielder
mdifielder if Eriksen leaves
defender if Toby leaves
I agree, ask yourselves guys; other than our individual stars, are out CM and FB better than Arsenal's, Leicester's, Wolves, Everton etc. Poch has done well to keep us at this level, we need serious rebuilding in the next two windows.

He's been mentioned before by many of us, but Phillip Billing absolutely fits what Poch wants in a CM. Absolute unit, aggressive in the tackle, has shown the ability to spread the ball around a bit and would likely see a boost in passing accuracy with a more attack minded side. At 22, he also would bring some youth to midfield and would likely come at a reasonable fee. Would he be an amazing signing? Likely not. But, he does make a ton of sense and should give us some decent depth in an area we are so desperate for it.

If we sell Wanyama, he's probably a good bet as far as the replacement.

Definitely agree that Clarke is the main one to look at, and your judgement on Phillips is quite easy to understand, I just think that there’s potential there to develop into a very capable DM in a defined role.
