Similar position Madrid are in with Bale. They want a certain fee for him that no one is willing to pay and then there’s the wages on top of that.

I think Eriksen will want some sort of resolution before preseason starts but doubt that will happen.

We aren’t really in a position to dictate a price to Madrid with his contract up next summer. It’s a pity we let his contract situation come to this, and the same for Toby.

Rather be a squad player at RM than take part of potentially our most exciting season whilst being a key player. Cya

He could also believe in his ability to succeed at Madrid and work his way into the team. He is capable of doing so, and Madrid wouldn't be interested unless he could. One thing he doesn't lack is work ethic.

I would lose all respect for Eriksen if he ends up joining RM to be a rotation player.

In my eyes he is already a weakling for asking for the transfer considering in what great position we are in and isn't even remotely close to the transfers of Berbatov, Modric, or Bale who were at teams that couldn't even make Top 4 so I understood them wanting to get to teams that are winning and we were miles away from that at those times. But asking for a transfer now after making the CL final, just oozes of p***y like behavior and if he actually ends up being a squad player, its going to be one of the most pathetic moves a player of his caliber has chosen to do.

Yeah to be fair I was close to deleting my comment because then I saw it in that way. Can't fault his belief and I hope he does well

We wanted to extend contracts for both players, but for different reasons they won't renew, Eriksen because he wants to leave, Toby because he pissed off poch by going back and asking for more money after we verbally agreed a new contract.

With eriksen it wasn't us putting ourselves in this position 're his contract, there is nothing we can do.

I can genuinely see Levy letting Eriksen leave on a free rather than accepting a bid of say £30m for him. If the price is too low but ultimately having him helps us progress further in the league and in Europe the money we make will cover the £30m loss in a years time and get one year extra out of him. £50m is fair and if Eriksen doesn't see that and wants to get pissy about it, tough luck on him he's signed a deal guaranteeing is that he'd be committed to the cause until summer 2020.

Just for reference; Hazard on his last year of his contract went for 88.5m (with add ons as well). We should be expecting 70 - 75 million at the very least.

Surely that's resolvable? Toby has been nothing but a professional on the pitch whilst maintaining the passion. Wish he could sign

RM clearly prefer Pogba and Riola will get it done probably in the last week of the window, and Eriksen won’t be needed anymore. I really hope we aren’t holding back on GLC due to this.

I think the issue/ difference is with both is that Real Madrid really wanted Hazard and needed him this year to keep Zidane and the Real Madrid fans happy and that Zidane is so so on Eriksen and will gladly pass on him if the deal isn't great.

Chelsea could also afford to lose Hazard on a free as they are so well bankrolled by their owners money compared to us who operate within a rigid spend within your means frame of work. Hazard was the Jewell Real wanted but if Eriksen is seen as a squad player then ondont see Real wanting to pay a premium for him when he will cost zilch in a years time.

We did not let it come to that though they forced it to become that way by refusing to sign very good contract offers.
You can't put that one on the club it's the players being awkward as I guess is their right.

Eriksen holding the cards here, if he doesn’t go now he will go for nothing next year. We will ultimately have to lower the price and and RM know that especially as they don’t see him as a regular and are therefore not desperate. Levy needs to get his best negotiating skills out and make sure we get Ceballos in exchange.
If he doesn’t sign, he must not play or train with the group. We should have no problems fucking up his life for a year, letting him get rusty, slow and unfit.

Weird how Eriksen so badly wants to go there but Madrid seem to just want him for the sake of it and as a squad player.

At spurs he’s first choice and we’re on up so just seems really odd move to want for me as Real aren’t looking like they want him that badly...

I guess it depends on how bad the whole situation was.

The club simply cannot afford to risk letting its replacement target go on the off chance that Real lose interest in Eriksen and that Eriksen decides to stay with us. Even if we do get GLC in and Eriksen doesn't leave for RM as a top 4 club who has just played in a European cup final our stock and the players in our squads stock must be pretty high. I can think of a dozen players in our ranks I'd be willing to consider selling (not all of them obviously) that could make good money back should we risk being proactive and it leaves us financially a little short.

Little bit of a harsh way to word it but I agree.
It is the signal being sent to others ,if players are allowed to run down contracts/ refuse to sign it will harm the club in the long run as it will become the norm.

It also seemed from prior years ITK both at some point (around 12-18 months) ago indicated they would sign a new deal. As such an ambitious club would not want to lose such talents. We may well have sold both last summer (although you can't force teams to hand over huge fees on a whim).

That said without them we may not have made CL Final and Top 4 and therefore be in the position we are in now.

There are some things you can throw at Levy, but letting assets devalue recklessly is certainly not one.

I get that losing Eriksen we have the potential replacements of Lo Celso and Ceballos. But if we lose Alderweireld, who have we been linked with to replace him or will our 4 CB's be Vertonghen, Sanchez, Foyth and Dier?
Same goes with Trippier?

I'm bored with Eriksen now. He thinks he's a superstar, Zidane clearly doesn't, he needs to wind his neck in and get back to work with his actual team.

“Zidane clearly doesn’t” Really? How do you know that? You don’t think they’re possibly playing the card to get him cheap? Do RM buy Squad Players?

The old 'rot in the reserves' cliche usually gets rolled out in these situations but it never happens and shouldn't when you have a top player involved. Biting off your nose to spite your face. Look how well Toby played last season.
