Tbh i thought he simply suffered just as much as others from the diamond we played.
Second half he was great. More room to operate and playing clever passes. Gives his all.
Good game.

Just another huff and puff performance. The majority love him because he plays with his heart. The winners here (the minority), can't tolerate the consistent bad decisions and flimsy attacking play.

His "Assist" yesterday, was a good bit of defensive play, followed by a rash shot where he was not remotely shaped to hit it, and as such it was going 5 yards wide. At his age now, after winning that ball, he has to be looking for a pass and bit of movement, but he hasn't developed with experience at all.

He just doesn't have the quality in the final 3rd befitting of the stature we now want to consider ourselves.

Think people need to give him time to get going. His incessant press in the final third is critical to our play as can be seen from third goal and his quality will come as he plays more. Played Kane in during 1st half and only player other than Ndombele able to any sort of incisive pass in rye final third during 1st half. Hope he stays injury free and show people how much we missed him last season.

Personally always feel he is 1/2 a pass away from being a great player..if you get my meaning just never quite manages to squeeze it through ideas are right execution not quite there,

Think most people had it right. He was decent, nothing spectacular but certainly a million miles away from terrible. A lot more to come from him if he can stay fit.

His chronic lack of pace prevents him from being a great player.

But how long do you give it, he has had 2 good months in 6 years here, the final month in the 2015/16 season, when the team had basically given up after Leicester had all but secured it, and he was only one that kept going to the end, and then one month at beginning of last season.
The rest of the time he has been average to poor, or injured

Lamela is a very frustrating player, I am not sure how anyone can disagree with that. He sometimes has some great games and can show quality even in his bad games. However, he seems to run slower than he walks and a lot of moves breakdown with him.
Ultimately he is not good enough to start if we have ambitions to challenge for the top, doesn’t mean he has no place in the squad though.

We will see if he survives the new 'tougher Poch' purge.

It’s no surprise to me that Poch is rumoured to love Lamela because his mentality is one of the best we have. He’s a fighter who is ready to do anything or play anywhere for the team.

Regardless of what you think of him as player skill set wise Poch values mentality and work rate above a lot of things. Not saying you can be a shit player and have those qualities and still be in the squad but luckily Lamela brings a lot to the table from a footballing point of view as well.

Maybe that says more about Pochettino than the player.

Frankly I'm absolutely amazed he managed to come back from his hip injury. It was a potentially career-ending problem, and he must have immense mental strength and willpower to even get back to playing football, let alone playing in the most demanding league in the world.

I hope that if he can stay fit, he'll be a valuable squad player this season.

I wish some of our other players had his attitude and energy on the pitch. Never anything less than 100% effort, regardless of how well he or the team are playing.

Lamela looked better and stronger in the pre season games. He has two good attributes, one is his tenacity in his pressing and the other are his flicks. But is it enough? I was great when we were suffering at times a couple of years ago but now we need more. One thing that seriously lacking with Lamela is his thinking. He runs into trouble often because he really lacks a vision I think to find the space when he is dribbling,he doesn't add goals like Moura does and so he remains a bit player in my opinion

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

He’s not good in these matches where a team parks the bus against us and clogs up at the space in front of the defence. He just gets lost.

He’s much better later on when play is broken or when we’re playing a team who comes out against us and leaves space to work in.

I do actually agree with this, but this is affects our whole team, including Eriksen
