I thought that was a decent to watch as a neutral but pretty poor quality match. Very open and quite often a frantic affair. Chelsea for much of the game looked the tidier outfit, but still remains the imbalance between possession and attacking threat. And defensively just weren't adjusting and got caught for each goal, those two centre backs as well are just not convincing particularly when you're wide open as a team and needing a bit of nous when you're going to be defending one v one and under a lot of pressure.

United like last season can certainly counter attack at 100mph, but beyond that there isn't much to their football and they don't string passages of play together overly well. When teams wise up and seal off the counter opportunities or sit off them they will have to play much more football.

I'm not sure that was a 4-0 game, but when you don't even attempt to readjust and address certain issues, in fact just got worse as the game went on, you cant complain about getting punished.

Chelsea could have done worse than Marcelo Bielsa to work with their talented youngsters. The 'they know the club' argument is largely a load of bollocks.

If Chelski keep playing like this Fat Frank will be gone by Christmas.
People keep saying Frank has a free hit but if they are absolutely rotten then they will surely want someone else in for when they get to spend money again?

Allegri would be available?

I look at that Chelsea team and without their saviour Hazard it looks worse than Leicester and Wolves. I can see them finishing top 10 this season.
When you consider he scored 16 goals and got 15 assists then look at his replacements, they really do look like they're in trouble.

Even if Pulisic does half as well and gets a respectable 8 goals and 7 assists, they're effectively 15 goals worse off which, in terms of goal difference puts them roughly on par with Everton who finished 8th. Add an inexperienced manager and a shonky defence to the equation and it's not unthinkable that they'd end up 9th or 10th if things don't go their way.

If today has shown anything, it's that Ole wants his United team based on pace and little else. They'll have a lot of success on the counter this season but will struggle to break down more defense minded teams.

I think Skipp is a decent DM. Better off the ball than Winks imo.
Skipp was used mostly as a No. 8 in preseason which makes me wonder whether Poch doesn't trust him with the responsibility of being a No. 6 in a CM3 or diamond formation just yet. I agree he's got a great future ahead of him but I'd be surprised if he were started in many top six matchups this season.

I'm not sure it would be Wolves mind. If they qualify for the group stages of the EL they're in trouble. I was shocked to see their lack of signings considering this. They've also loaned out a number of useful players. They will really struggle if one or two key players pick up an injury.

Well that was a crazy half, loose again to Leicester who will be tough and it's sweaty armpits already for Lampard

I suspect you're probably right about Wolves, though they did bring in some young players and have a few more rotation options. I think they'll ultimately end up 7th or 8th.

I think Leicester have a good team and could well push Chelsea and Utd. I'm just not sure if they have enough goals in the team - they really need Vardy to be fit and firing or they'll struggle a bit.

To me lampard looked like out of his depth. He couldn't do anything against their counter attacking strategy. If kante wasn't injured and benched by him then it was the big mistake.

Maguire making a massive difference to them already, going from Phil Jones to him is a massive upgrade.

Utd fans were crying out for creative players all summer. If Pogba isn't at his best, like you say, they really look like they'll struggle against teams that sit deep and try to frustrate them.

At this early early stage it looks pretty much as it was .

Liverpool and city top 2

Us 3rd, despite finishing 4th I can't imagine that kinda relegation firm again

Then the muchness of arse Chelsea and United keeping wolves and Everton at bay
