We haven't signed him or had a bid accepted yet, right?

Have I missed something, or is everyone high-fiving a bit prematurely?

No, you’ve not missed anything and I agree it’s a bit premature to be putting him in hypothetical line up’s, but it does seem to be gathering pace.

Of course, it also wouldn’t surprise me to wake up to find a statement from Wolves that “we’ve received no bids, and value him at way more than is being reported” etc etc.

I think you are right to be cautious, but generally when the media comes in this quickly and this hard it's a sign that the deal is close to closing.

sounds like most of them are gutted he’s going. It’s probably worth looking at a few of their match threads though to get a true picture!
"Match thread" and "true picture".
I see what you've done there! ;):woot:

Has anyone watched him closely ? I've seen him obviously and remember him being linked when poch was here but I couldn't give you a proper opinion.

My main question is what is he like defending one on one? Its what I hated about trippier.

Also an opinion about the team. This lopsided thing could work the other way surely? Sessengon as an advanced left back with maybe tanganga as a right back/right centre back.

Wolves fans don't seem too bothered if he goes
Of course not, neither were Southampton fans when their captain left. Neither were Spurs fans when given up Eriksen left, limited Walker left, no goals Modric left, lazy Berbatov left or 'the 7 we signed are better than him' Bale left.

It's a football fans favourite defence mechanism.

Trust me Mourinho is gonna do a madness next season, we're going to suprise many and I predict we could potentially even finish 2nd-3rd, and win a cup.

He’s definitely building a solid squad, just a shame the league is being run into the ground by the sportswashing clubs.

Maybe the children on twitter are like that. But in the forums they seem pretty down

Here are some quotes

I feel sick and am going to bed. Hopefully when i wake up this will have been a false rumour.

Doc is so important to how we play though and our end product in terms of goals and assists that it is going to need to be one hell of a player to be an upgrade.

Well this is all a bit ****

Id be shocked if he left, genuinely shocked.

This doesn't feel right at all

Still don't understand it.

Can't believe it really, £15m would be an abysmal fee for a player who counts as homegrown and has 2 fairly solid PL seasons under his belt. Awful business from us if true.

I feel sick to the stomach that doherty is on the brink of leaving for such a paltry fee.

And it goes on and on. There are some people being positive about it, trying to say ok but we will get a younger better replacement, changing of the guard etc. A few are in denial, and a tiny minority are not fans of doherty. But the general mood, is of, well, pure shock.

Much stronger negative reaction than that of PEH, who was never a universally well liked player at southampton. These reads much more similar to when we lost our big players in the past.

Still not now. Would have been if he left on form, but he didn't

If it happens, and for the prices mooted, then this is a very solid piece of business. Hojbjerg and Doherty address two of the more glaring weaknesses in our squad.

But - and it's a big but - we still lack creativity and if Ndombele goes, as expected, the need for a bit of 'magic' from midfield will be felt even more. If Lo Celso plays deeper then we still need a genuine Eriksen replacement, if he plays further forward, we'll need an Ndombele replacement that can get the ball to the attacking players. I hope this is an area we're looking to address, but there are very few links (if any) to these types of players.

We'll be done after we sign a backup striker & sell Ndombele, Aurier, Rose & CCV.
If we do sell all those (and I’m not optimistic we will) I wouldn’t be surprised to see Doherty + backup striker + one other.

I just don’t think we’ll sell them all. Could easily still imagine Ndombele or Aurier still being here at the end of the window.

The thing is its not entirely true, there have always been some who are like that but most were absolutly gutted when Modric left and Berbatov left. Now we are bigger I think it hurts less, because getting a top player isn't as hard

Things like Walker were not hard to take because Walker wasn't even starting at that time and we had tripps. Eriksen was so drawn out people were just sick to death with it, but again, we have other good attacking players. When we were less good the main reactions was denial, pain, anger and all these typical things.

Southampton fans weren't that upset when PEH, because PEH always split opinion, was never universally well liked and they played the best football of their season when he was out of the squad. People say that 'ohh its just a defense mechanism' because they are trying to justify why fans arent that bothered by it. Thankfully, while PEH will 100% have many people who don't rate him 6 months from now, he will be playing a different style and different system and may thrive here. But it did annoy me that people seemed to act as if we were signing some adored figure from Southampton, we were not.

Having said that, the general reaction of Doherty leaving is definitely more in keeping with losing players that are rated. And this matters a lot to me. People may think that there is more value in the player threads, but go to any player thread on this site, even Kane, and it's filled with criticism, because people use those threads to vent frustrations after games, while most fans ignore them. Reaction to leaving for me does show something of value. Particularly on forums as the people on forums tend to be more invested in the club than say, Mark, from twitter.
