The most important thing squadwise right now is dealing with Romero and Lo Celso's call-ups. We face a possibility of them not playing for much of the first half of the season, if they'd have to quarantine for 10 days every time they come back from South America.

The whole thing is s cheap piss-take. This is ALL on Daniel Levy!?

All summer our remit was priority defence and a striker! Midfielder if we moved one or two. Don’t blame Paratici. This is totally and utterly ALL on Daniel Levy. There is no disputing and arguments to defend him here. In total creatively (thanks to Para) we done good business. We fecked up over a forward, because he sees things differently. Pee off!

This proves DL priority of being in the CL, having the big shiny stadium all for CL, CL & Stadium to help attract the bigger commercial sponsors / contract values, etc etc etc was just PR spin to appease fans blah blah blah ..... its like saying if City really wanted Kane you make the appropriate offer and goes proper balls in, Levy seems to have done a City type bottle job , what makes it worse even with hope something will change with the new internal structure change with a DOF, ultimately and i hate to say it its same old levy and same old strategy which leaves us short year in and year out, the same M.O.

Are mistakes learned from, well they are duly noted, but same action ..... wasnt it einstein i believe that said ' the sign of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over again but expecting a different result'

I think that’s what the crux of the frustration is tonight. We had an opportunity to strengthen in numbers and quality ( it’s definitely a buyer’s market) but we wasted it because Levy u-turned on spending
Pinch of salt. Maybe there was never any intention in the first place? Surely you can’t be selective of only one type of info that best suits yourself? POS is my motto.

I completely understand what you're saying but spending £40m and getting in the CL which will bring in over £100m, makes it worth the investment.

I think I'll wait until we're 10 more games in to see if it was a good TW or not.
Since when does Traore guarantee ECL?

In May-June, I was in despair , had no hope for Spurs, when all the manager drama was going on. I had no hope for us , from having a manager to keeping star to transfer window - everything was so bleak.

Roll on 3 months - we have a decent manager, players seem to be on board and seem to be buying into the ideas and also delivering them. Kane & Son are staying.

We have had decent window, in that we upgraded 2 position in XI, strengthened fullback positions finally. Yes, we dont have that Kane replacement. But thats about it.

With the start we have made, atleast the hope is back

So if the remit included a striker, why was Paratici trying to get Traore? No wonder Levy vetoed it (if true). If we needed a new striker and didn't have any reasonable options that's on Paratici.

Just a few months ago we sacked a manager (who had to go at some point) who has a history of winning things the week before a cup final and replaced him with a complete novice, not just in managerial terms but in any terms above being a player.

Following this sacking we spent months trying to find the right manager, going all around the houses both in terms of experience and style, only to land (a few weeks before the transfer window was about to open) on a guy that was sacked by wolves. (I know, I know, we have to give him time but that’s not the point).

This place and Tottenham as a football club had a big dark cloud hanging over it and tempers and emotions (or lack there of which was often now the case) we’re running high.

The fact that following all of this that because of a new director of football and a nice bit of positive ITK (which I’m sure was all correct at the time it was received and shared) any of you thought that there was going to be positive change and all of a sudden we were going to start addressing the issues that had been in the squad for a long time absolutely beggars belief.

Please tell me why any of you thought it would be different this year?

The only actual position we’ve improved is at right back, everywhere else has either got weaker or stayed the same.

Classic classic tottenham and classic classic levy.

Since when does Traore guarantee ECL?

Who mentioned a guarantee? I don't think even a new striker guarantees CL. I was not really a fan of Traore but after our game I thought he would be a good signing as he attracts players to himself leaving others free.
My point wasn't about Traore specifically but made the point as you we're quoting the £40m for him.

Not splashing 50mill on Traore is the right call IMO but not signing a striker is unforgiveable.

I expect Bryan to step up and have a huge season, along with Lo Celso in terms of goals and assists but there is no hidding the fact that we are 1 or 2 injuries away from a disaster.
I really think people have way to high expectations for Gil. i am not so sure, his positioning is all over the place as he wants to much, as is normal when in a new club and that young, he also burns his energy way to fast and one of the reasons i think Spain used him primarily as a sub in the 60th minute. Personally i do not think he will have an impact at all this season, and will probably only play if there are injuries or in cup games and have some last 15 min subs.

My take on it -I think it’s been a good window. I’m treating this summer window like the 1st leg of a cup tie, next summer being the second leg. Only half the job done but I’d rather spend the big money after having a full season at home, selling Kane in the summer and finishing the rebuild. Those we have brought in are young, up and coming talents from decent clubs and are exactly the sort of players that excite me. Not someone like Traore for 40-50m (I would like him but not for that much).

Just have to be patient now and wait for the 2nd leg and let Paratici finish the job. Never gonna be done in one window. Yes we are short in attack and creativity but don’t want us to waste it either.

Rodon the jury's still out on. Sanchez and Dier we've had years of fuck-ups from them. They're not going to change my mind that they'd good defenders. If you need Toby next to you to not be shit, you're not good enough.

Ndombele, with where his head and fitness are both at, is no where near good enough to start.

To be fair Dier has been a full time centre half for 1 season, and that wasn’t exactly with a hands on coach who improved players. He hasn’t been fucking up for years as a defender because he hasn’t been a defender for years

Maybe he doesn't rate Traore as much as others do.

£40m isn't pocket change.

p.s I still suspect there is some Nuno/Mendes politics at play here.
Pretty much every manager had the same issues though where we, at best, bought some of what they asked for but left ourselve

He is all about the cash flow and lets face it, CL is big money as well as boosting the value of stadium naming rights etc. This is why Levy is focused on the more realistic qualification to CL rather than the tought Premier League champions:

  • Play-off round: €5,000,000
  • Base fee for group stage: €15,640,000
  • Group match victory: €2,800,000
  • Group match draw: €900,000
  • Round of 16: €9,600,000
  • Quarter-finals: €10,600,000
  • Semi-finals: €12,500,000
  • Runner-ups: €15,500,000
  • Champions: €20,000,000

I'm guessing Paratici was given a budget at the start of the window and has done what he can with it

I read this and thought it is absolutely right. He went out and got started early with Gollini, Gil, and Romero which I think are all going to prove to be great signings (but maybe that's the hope that will kill me again).

Then it all kinda seemed to fall apart and he did what he could, and I think he did really well personally. I have never been a Levy-hater, but you can't argue with the same confusing let-downs over and over again. I think what has recovered this window if I recall correctly, though, is that our oldest signing was Gollini at 26 years old? Correct me if I am wrong. So as always, looking to the future, maybe one day we will reach the peak of the mountain, or at least get back to the Pochettino days which I miss so much.
