IMO, in order to actually be able to compete for trophies. We need to upgrade the following players in our starting 11:

Davies
Winks
Sanchez
Royal
Reguilon (arguable)
PEH (arguable)
Lucas (arguable)

Hopefully, Kulusevski and Bentancur can address RW and CM. But still, that's a lot of work to do in the summer.
I think you could add a few more to that list if you were judging our players compared to those of Man City, Chelsea or Liverpool. Not sure Dier or Skipp (yet) would get into their squads - never mind their starting elevens. Either way I completely agree - that's an awful lot of players! We also tend to miss out badly in the TW and many other teams contain players we could have done with getting over the line.

Apart from Romero I'm not sure we've really beaten another club to a signature / decent signing. In addition to all the players we've missed out on over the last few years, watching Walker-Peters and comparing him to Royal is getting on my nerves. If we really won't spend the money, I am still perplexed as to why we won't instead turn into the Dortmund or RB team - attract the next Bellinghams Haalands and Sanchos of this world. Spend money on the best youth coaches and youth players. Accept that we may not always finish in the top four every season but at least be a really entertaining, young team of mostly under 25s.

I think Davies is fine as a back up CLB, I’d be moving Rodin and Tanganga.

Doherty has to be on the upgrade list as well.

This constant criticism, the 'I know best (better) and desire for 'instant' success to me is a reflection of of a wider societal trend. Nearly everything we 'want' can be obtained instantly - 24/7 everything.

Couple that with an absolute craving for success (which is fair) and how close we were to grasping it under Poch really draws out anger, frustration and entitlement that can be seen with every defeat and in every transfer window.

Patience, whilst shitty, really is a virtue.
I've got all the time in the world for Conte. But how much time are we considering short term with Enic? I'm not stressed about the current position as we seem to be working towards something but I'd love a sale right now so someone can come in and really get after it with Conte.

It's his vision we are working towards, and he's very happy with the way things were planned out. AGAIN it's never been about this season and being ready for next. As long as we push the way he expects for next season he will be here imo.
Need to remember when Conte joined Chelsea they had no European football at all, and what did he do that season?

Sounds like lo celso and Ndombele have started their loans well. Lets hope that continues because getting them out in the summer will be key I feel. Also early signings if possible will be paramount. The summer feels miles off this morning though where we have to beat wolves today to prevent three league defeats on the bounce.

We still need more power and guile across the midfield and attacking positions for me.

What is alarming for me is that with the exception of Romero our summer signings look like terrible business at this point. There are major question marks over FP for me as Gil is miles off being ready for the PL, I honestly see nothing in Royal, and Gollini hardly inspires confidence either. I’ll reserve judgement on the January buys, but I’d be worried that if Conte wasn’t in charge we would’ve made more poor acquisitions (there was talk he vetoed moves for a few players in January - not sure how much of that was BS).
We have to be better in the transfer market to really push on and I’m praying we start to get it right.
At least Gollini is a loan!

I think it's easier to say who we should keep rather than who we should replace. I'd keep the following:

Lloris, Romero, Skipp, Son, Kane. Dier and Reggy I'd also keep as a squad players but they can definitely be upgraded. The 2 new lads are obviously the first of the upgrades. So by my calculation we only need 16 new players to make up the 25 man squad :wideyed:

Lots of reports that Madrid will activate their option on Reguilon this summer, so I guess that will be one more position that needs filling.

My problem with the strategy of the club regarding managers is that it was clear Poch's success was built on the bedrock of a rock solid defence. That was falling apart due to age or form and all of our defenders needed replacing. We then went for a group of manager who favour five at the back, which is questionable as you need to then buy five defenders rather than 4.

So we are building a side to play the Conte way. This is going to all be done in the summer. This means we are committing to play this way for the next five-seven years. Oh dear!!!

If Conte wants to gut this whole team then I'm up for it. To me we need to grt rid of every player that played under Poch bar maybe Kane. This team needs a complete overhaul and start from fresh.

Gonna take 5+ years to fully rebuild.

Kane, Son, Hugo getting older and 75% of our squad is of midtable quality.

Not looking great at all.

Yep, this shit ain’t getting fixed in one summer.

Requires WHOLESALE outgoing & incomings.

Won’t all be done in 1 window

So Bale, Modric, Kessie on free transfers. Nick Pope, who's gonna be into his last year on his contract at Burnley who will likely get relegated, to give Hugo real competition and us an actual choice of GK. Who can we get for RWB and LCB/cover for Dier when he's out?
And LWB options if Reggie gets taken back to Madrid?

Worst thing is that are we even going to get these players if we finish 7th or something? Whole plan would go ouy the window then

Not a dig at you in the slightest, but if we miss out on Europe, why do the likes of Kessie and Modric choose to come here when they will likely have offers from clubs who offer them more chances to win things and likely pay more too?

I didn't say they'd come. I'm trying to get options on who may be available to us.

Ah ok, sorry, I read it as you suggesting them as targets and I was hoping you had a way to make me feel more positive ?
