This isn't to do with Charlie Kane though, this is about Daniel Levy letting £70-100M walk out the door for free next June.

It staggers me that fans on one hand moan about Levy penny pinching over £4.50 (rightly so) on an incoming deal and on the other think he's willing to let a player worth up to 10% of the cost of the stadium walk for free??

Spurs are better with Kane obviously, but we've seen this year that he's no guarantee of a Champions League place. Levy is a businessman and 'hoping' we get into the CL and 'hoping' he signs a new deal won't even cross his mind.

This is a completely different scenario to City two years ago. Levy will put out the usual bluff that we have 'no intention of selling', he'll try to up the bids as much as he can, but any club in their right mind will know that Levy has nothing in his hand and it will happen.

Sorry lads, we need to brace the fact he's off.

I believe that Kane only wants to join Real/Citeh/Manure, and that none of them are willing to stomp up anywhere near 100m this summer.

So question is, how low would you go? Would you play ball if the best offer on the table was 60m or so? Not having a pop, just an honest question.

60m makes Levy lose face completely. He'll look weak. We all know how he's portrayed. We all know he cares how he's perceived. Not a hope he sells that low.

Agreed. Which is why I believe that Kane will leave for nothing next summer.

Plus he knows he will get a lot of shit for Kane going. So it will be framed by the club that they had no choice, the player wouldn’t sign a new contract. Obviously though we all know the truth. That had we invested properly over the last 5 or 6 years he probably would want to stay as he’d probably have a few medals.

For me it's not so much about the money -- we're one of the wealthiest clubs in world football, we should be able to do whatever business needs to be done without selling our best player.

Rather, it's about shipping him off abroad. If it's the case that he's made up his mind to run his contract down no matter what, sending him to Bayern is a vastly preferrable outcome to him moving to United, City, or Liverpool on a free in a year's time IMO.

I reckon he'd likely collect trophies for a few years in Germany then we'd stand a good chance of re-signing him for the twilight of his career to capture the PL record and hopefully lift some silverware with us before he calls it quits. Imagine how much better that would be than having to watch him week-in, week-out tearing up the league for one of our (erstwhile?) rivals.

The fact that we'd get a big fee that we could put toward a young replacement such as Ferguson, Osimhen, Vlahovic, or David would be compensation enough for losing out on him for one season. Obviously I'd much prefer that he stay and sign a new contract but sending him abroad is not the worst possible outcome.

Totally agree mate, I have no idea really. At a complete guess, 'if' Bayern have reportedly offered £60M you'd think Levy would aim to get at least £75-80M.

I would sell him if Bayern get anywhere near our asking price. The prospect of him going on a free to Manchester United or even Chelsea is so mortifying it has to be avoided at all costs. Those of you thinking that he'll be so thrilled by Ange's winning football that he'll sign a new deal are kidding yourselves. Sell him now abroad for a decent price or let him go for a free to our rivals next year. That's the simple choice.
Saying all that I expect levy to try to hang onto him at all costs and a dissatisfied Kane to run down his contract.

Might be off base here but to me, the money’s kind of irrelevant - losing one of the best players in the world that we couldn’t replace would almost certainly mean a worse season - so less prize money, less tv money, less fan interaction. Besides, I can’t believe the summer of 2013 didn’t convince our fans that selling your best player will always make your team worse.

I agree however if he is going to leave for free anyway next year then we should consider it if Bayern come back with a better offer I think.

There’s always a chance for us with him - nobody predicted Arsenal would challenge this season and we’ve been as close before. Let’s hope we can see what the club can do this season with Harry, a new manager and some new reinforcements

Would definitely not sell this summer but would consider selling in Jan depending how things are going. If we've transitioned into a more cohesive attacking team we could sell him in Jan like we did Eriksen. He could already agree to join someone then anyway but it really depends how our season is going. We'll have to judge whether losing him would kill our season though. I guess you have to consider the cups and whether he would want to try and win a domestic one too. If Bayern are still in the Champions League then he might consider the jump and a run at that instead though.

I think a belligerent attitude of 'not for sale at any price' isn't conducive here and if it forces Kane's hand once again to make public his desire to leave the club then it's all rather unnecessary.

With all the will in the world, we ultimately need to be pragmatic here and just accept that Kane will not be committing his long term future here and coupled with the new regime and a list as long as your arm of player turnover required - not to mention a complete overhaul of how we actually play - I just think this summer represents the time that we sell him on the proviso that a fair and acceptable offer is met and all parties move on in their respective paths.

And, honestly - I could see a similar goal output if we replaced Kane and Dier with Richy and Maddison in the line-up - which is effectively the trade-off from losing Kane, and ditching 3 CBs.

That’s not the trade off is it. The trade off is Kane and Maddison or Richy and Maddison and the goal output is about 20 less with richarlison there over Kane.

Spurs stadium would be a toxic disaster even with an 80-100m sale if it took Ange time to get things moving. they probably see that the brand image being in danger if the fans turn on the team even more which impacts more than just the football team.

My guess is that oh Danny boy is rolling the dice that Ange can turn it around enough to keep Kane for a year at least. And even if it takes time for the turnaround, that with Kane is more palatable to the majority of fans than that without him. The bonus would be if Kane re-signed after the year.

Have to agree and he’d probably factor in the potential CL money which he could mitigate against losing him on a free. We’d certainly struggle to get that without him.
