Can people stop saying we should get Martial (or even try for Rashford!) in exchange for Rose. It's not going to happen because there is no way Utd would stand for significantly strengthening a rival with one of those players.
Agree - all Levy would hear is "Rose is excess to requirements, please help yourself to £50m".
All Mourinho would hear is "Rose is desperate to play for Man U, please make a low bid".

We 100% cant sell him to a rival.

We’ve already improved one selling Walker and can’t do it again selling Rose.

If we sell to rival, then we are just repeating what Arsenal did a few years ago with the likes of Clichy, Sagna, Nasri and Adebayor to City.. They've not really recovered since.

Losing August 2016 - Jan 2017 vintage Rose will obviously be of detriment to the team. However, will he get back to that level, and, at his age, for how much longer before he plateaus and regresses? 2 years tops imo (bearing in mind that, like Walker, his attributes are mainly physical). We have had both from a young age, and now appear to be seling them at their peak. Ditto Walker. This clearly makes sense financially, especially if (and I stress if, as I have no clue, he is also having a negative impact on the dressing room). Reinvesting the fee into another young prospect/or younger player (see Sanchez, D and Aurier, S) looks like the way to go for the forseeable future. Maybe the stadium will enable a change in the model. Equally, it might not. Regardless, until we can achieve something close to pay parity with City, Utd, Chelsea, and/or develop some other form of USP (perhaps a place where young, english players are given a platform to perform? ie. What we clearly are doing) it's difficult to see what alternatives exist for the present.

That's on them though...I have faith in Poch and Levy that they have a plan to keep us competitive.

This I'm afraid is the harsh realities of going through transition, we're were always going to have to bite the bullet in some way and the treat of players leaving was always on the horizon, it's how we manage it which will be key to us moving forward.

The issue is, that will be for the next Spurs squad, in two years time Vertonghen, Toby and Hugo will all be past their peak whilst Eriksen and Alli will have moved on. Leaving us to start from scratch again. It seems that much like the Bale, Modric VDV side, we will again be a piece of the puzzle short and achieve nothing.

We sell first team players to rivals and fill out our squad with dross like Llorente,n'koudou and Sissoko.

United have ibrahimovic, Rashford, Martial and Lukaku up front, we have Kane and Llorente.

Don't forget Son. And of course, Vinny to come back.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility for Man Utd to sell a squad player to a rival. They sold Welbeck to Arsenal and Veron to Chelsea off the top of my head. Mourinho himself sold Mata to Man Utd and Gallas to Arsenal. If Martial tells them he wants to leave to join us as part of the Rose deal then it's not beyond the realms of possibility, but I think he'd need to have a dip in form first or some sort of public fallout to make it feasible.

Rose is back in the squad for Dortmund...

Rose would be part of the Martial deal. Roses' value id say is about £50m, in today's market you gotta say Martials value is probably about £80m+. So we'd have to give Utd Rose plus £30m and we don't have £30m to spend let alone the 200k a week to pay Martial. Also I don't think they'd sell to a rival and Martial might see us as a step down and rather go abroad if leaves.

I don't think the Man utd board will sanction Martial leaving.

He is a top young footballer. He will get better and if Mourinho doesn't fancy him it's not because Martial is not good enough. Most likely he will outlast Mourinho.

The utd board will see how Mourinho pushed out De Bruyne at Chelsea and won't want their own scenario like that.

A squad player who they would be willing to move on are Fellaini/Smalling/Herrera/Mata I guess. Players who are older but not really contribute much considering their wages.

Shaw will leave too but he never plays.

Man Utd really need a new left back, to Levy that will be music to his ears. But for me, if we sell him for 50 or even 60 mil to Utd we have strengthened one of our biggest rivals in one of the few areas they are clearly weaker then us. Unfortunatly it seems Rose is a gonna, which I am not happy about at all. I like Davies, he has been very good for much of the season, but he is not in the same league as Rose. Rose when fit is one of the best left backs in the world, selling him to a direct rival will essentially, in this case, help us solidify Utd position above us in the league. Yes getting Sess will be good, but from what I have seen of him, he seems a long way off defensively being anywhere near good enough to be starting for a CL or PL challenging team. Going forward he looks great but It will take him seasons to get remotly close to Roses level defensively. Ultimately I think loosening Rose and previously Walker will cause us greater harm then we care to admit despite he money made. Still, I appreciate we can’t keep unhappy players. I just wish we would sell abroad even if it’s for a little less.

Why does everyone keep saying this? :D

It's a fallacy that we can just sell our players to foreign teams, firstly a team will need to want said player and secondly the player needs to want to play abroad for that team, when Modric and Bale wanted to leave they were being followed by Real Madrid, Rose on the other hand is currently being followed by Man Utd hence that limits are choices of where to sell.

Strengthening a direct rival is ALWAYS a bad idea. No matter the fee, no matter the replacements we've lined up...

That we know of, there are enough big teams out there that are in need of a new left back, good ones are a very rare breed. Last season Rose was being linked to every big European club before his injury. Just because Utd are mentioned in the press that doesn’t mean they are the only club interested. And if Utd are the only team interested now then you wait until summer and offer him around, Rose ether wants to leave or not, he may prefer Utd but if it’s a choice of not going to Utd and staying or not going to Utd and leaving for somewhere else I imagine he would choose the latter. If Utd thought they could get him without any competition what’s to stop them from seriously undercutting our asking price. Levy would not leave himself so open.

But he has to want to go to that team, I'm sure there are teams out there who would list Danny as a potential target but what difference does that make if he only wants to go to Utd and judging by his comments of returning 'home' to play up North then I'm pretty certain his mind is made up. That said I think we should wait until the Summer to sell him which is what I've said all along anyway, it's a World Cup year and he wants to get in that squad so it's in his best interests to work for the shirt. As far as I'm concerned nothing has change despite what may have gone on this weekend, I still expect him to leave in the Summer and thought that would happen pre-comments.

Lol has Levy ever let a player go cheap regardless of the situation?

If he goes it will be on our terms, exactly the same as Walker.

There needs to be a market for the player to go abroad and the player would actually want to go there as well.

Well, if the player wants to pick his choice of club, then we should not let him do so as other players may follow suit when they decide that they want to leave the club too.

The EPL is awash with money, I’m not sure if losing £10m (or whatever difference) in value (if we sell to a club that’s not our rival in the league) would be a big loss, especially when we have spent the amount of money on players like Sissoko.
