French journalist Phillipe Auclair on the Guardian footy podcast on Sissoko:

“I have to question Pochettino, why Sissoko is enjoying such a long run in the side. ..it’s baffling...he can’t pass, his crossing is awful, he slows the play down, bad decisions, no creativity and his finishing is dreadful and yet he plays at Spurs? His presence makes you question whether you know anything about football."

Aurier had no chance because Bertrand had all the momentum in his run, that's why you have people tracking back with runners. If you watch it you can see the moment Sissoko realises he's fucked up and desperately starts pointing to Aurier who was left completely isolated

Dont embrass yourself by talking nonsense. Like yankspur you can make up shite just so to blame Sissoko.

He is limited and his continual inclusion significantly weakens us as a team.

Whether he is the worst player in a given game or if he is playing to his potential is kind of immaterial. He is not a Top 4 calibre player.

Don't think anyone said he is tbf.

No the issue is that some posters are trying their best to look as if Levy is paying them weekly wages to go online and spout off all sorts of pro-club crap. I don't care about competing for the title as the most glorifying Spurs fan ever, because not everything about Spurs if glorious.
Are you suggesting that people on a website called 'Spurs Community' are not allowed to view things with Spurs tinted glasses?

Whatever next?!

I don't think he is an attacking player by instinct.
He often buzzes around the defence - sometimes to really good effect, filling in gaps, whereas he does not buzz around our attack to any extent.
He looks totally lost in an attacking role and if MP wanted him to provide something different to our attacking midfield options - a bit of power to break down stubborn opponents - then I think we've seen in practice that Sissoko has not helped at all.

But he can play brilliant through balls and his relationship with Aurier is just adorable; he has played at the highest levels and there can be no doubting his power or attitude, and it might be just a case of wrong club/wrong time, as I think he could do a good job somewhere else.

But we can't just write off £30m - we need to put him in the shop window and hope that he hits some form.

The subject of Sissoko will continue to baffle us fans. It’s obvious to everyone that he’s not good enough to play for Tottenham(apart from Pochettino). What makes it even more baffling is Pochettinos continually playing him out of position. Seriously, picking him as an attacking wideman Sissoko looks like a non-league footballer at best. I’m fed up with saying his best position was central midfield. Sissoko constantly being played out of position has affected his game and confidence that I don’t think he’ll ever get back. Yes, his passing isn’t the best, but I don’t want him spraying the ball all over the pitch, just give it easy, get about the pitch, hustle the opposition. Break forward with speed when you can. Unfortunately it hasn’t worked at all and It’s got to the point now where this surely has to be his last season with us.

No way Sissoko could have got close to the run, he is very high when possession turns over, if you actually look at the distance he has to cover once turned, the speed at which the ball is played down the line and the pace of Bertrand he is never getting there even if he sprints. Maybe it's a positional error by him or maybe Pochettino wanted him really high either way, I don’t think he was even in a position to track Bertrand, he isn’t Usain Bolt.

There is literally no danger when the ball comes in anyway until the point Sánchez sticks it in.

For all those wondering why he's continually in the team, Pochettino hs addressed that question.

http://www.espnfc.com/tottenham-hot...of-tottenhams-key-players-mauricio-pochettino

"You have to give the credit to him because he is the only player who provides balance in those transitions -- offensive to defensive, defensive to offensive -- in the team," Pochettino said.

"There is no other player in the team who can provide that. This is the best quality he provides to the team. The team needs that balance nowadays. He has been one of our most important players."

It is a weird thing to say, because don't Winks and Dembele do exactly that?

Neither of them really have the pure athleticism of Sissoko to get up and down the pitch and transition quickly from attach to defence and vice versa, i guess.

I can kind of see what Pochettino means by that, but I think it ignores all the stuff he doesn't do, whcih is quite a lot, particularly when on the ball.

The thing is though is that being good in the transition is not just about athleticism. It is about being able to pass out from the back to launch counters, and carry the ball forward. Positioning is also crucially important. It just doesn;t make sense to me at all.
