Bottom of the league on New Year's Day. Why?

We can't carry on playing 4-5-1 with Bent on his own up front. Every team knows exactly what to expect from us ATM and they isolate us very very well. I can only see us getting a point from games MAX with the current squad we have, and that's with going into games defending and counter attacking. We've played 4-5-1 twice so far in 2 games, have gone all out attack in both and have been beaten twice. If it was Berba up front on his own we'd be fine because he's good in the air, has amazing movement and can hold the ball up better than any other striker in the league, whereas Bent can't. Bent's movement is ridiculously bad.

Forget a DM and CH right now, we need 2 strikers and the way things are going right now i'd even take Heskey!

If we dont sign any forwards before the window closes, we WILL be bottom of the league come New Year's Day, but we might not go down if we sign a striker in January...

IFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF on the other hand we sign a couple of strikers before the window closes, and thats a big if! We will smash everyone in sight.

At the moment we're only 3 points behind the team who, if we are up there will be our biggest challengers for 4th place, the gooners. I watched them against Twente a couple of weeks ago and they looked s***, after that i said if they play a half decent team who have a rock in the midfield they will get beat. West Brom ran them close, and Fulham and Jimmy Bullard got the job done. I know were away to Chelsea next week and the scum are at home to Newcastle but IF we sign a quality forward with movement that can link the midfield we will come away from Stamford Bridge with 3 points. I can also see the scum getting turned over by Newcastly if they start with the same team as yesterday.

Levy has got 7 days to prove to me he's got what it takes to run our club. It's been publicly known to all for over 6 weeks Keane and Berba want out, and Levy obviously knew a while before this and still hasn't brought it adequate replacements. I was over the moon when we sold Robbie for £20m+ because he is easily replaceable, but a month after signing for Liverpool, still no replacement. Now Berba is leaving and he will be a hell of a lot harder to replace, so lets hope we replace them both in the next week otherwise i will be the first to start the chant of...

LEVY OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bent's movement is ridiculously bad.

Hmmm, funny that. The game I watched saw him make run after run and not get picked out, or people take a shot from 30 yards. But hey, you see what you want to see, I'll see what actually happens.

Levy has got 7 days to prove to me he's got what it takes to run our club.

This is the sort over the top bullshit that I expected to read on this forum after yesterday. We're all disappointed, but fucking hell this just takes the biscuit.

Coupled with the thugs a few of rows in front of me yesterday, itching to fight a Sunderland fan who travelled with his two daughters just because they can't take the banter, has really made me start to detest Spurs fans as a species.

Ridiculous, over-the-top, unrealistic, irrational, short-sighted, wet drama queens.

It's not a direct attack on you nickchrissi, but just a sample of what I'm seeing across all messageboard.

So it's Levy's fault even he has invested over £100mil little over year to new players, more than any other team. And think about whole picture what he has done for this club since he bought Tottenham, without him we would be playing in Championship by now.

4-5-1 isn't the problem. Neither is Bent.

What is the problem is that for Bent to succeed in a 4-5-1 system he needs to have balls played through to run onto. Against Sunderland he got 1 ball through, and he challenged Gordon with that effort.

The problem then is that we're playing the wrong system for our sole striker. We either need to get someone else in, or change the system.

Hmm... Angry 11-yo child who hasn't got enough attention from his parents, some repressions it seems.

And tell me something, how easy it's to replace players like Keano and Berba? Like in reasonable way and not being a CL club? Of course you can always say that why he just didn't buy someone but that isn't as simple as it sounds. I bet that DL and DC has been working hard to find replacement for them like Arsha for Keano's, but it hasn't been a success. Then again if clubs doesn't want to sell or player doesn't want to come. We could buy english players or who are playing in PL, but then price would be much higher than players outside the PL and when you buy from outside PL, players might not want to come as even cultural differences are too much and teams don't want to sell their first XI players.

As the situation currently stands we have Bent and Berbatov in our strikeforce.

If the latter won't be in come next week, his replacement will be.

Are you stupid enough to think that he'll let Berbatov go without replacement beaming on the official site?

The thing about Levy is he's been burnt in more than one way by his staff:

  • Sol Campbell - lying about contract signing
  • Kanoute - not getting a replacement in first
  • Arnesen - [well he milked that one for compensation]
  • Keane - [milked for compensation]
But out of every single one of those situations, he's become better - and has never made the same mistake twice, and certainly learnt from his experiences. He's been running the club for 7 years, and considering what we were then and what we are now, well, you're just wrong.

We were spoilt for strikers last year - we were one too many. We need 3 and a kid - not 4 Internationals. It's overkill.

It would surprise me greatly if we don't end up with 3 strikers in our squad. Berbatov is going nowhere until a new player is there. Levy won't let it happen.

I'm not a religious person, but in this situation I think you need a little faith. Rather than leaking from your vagina.

The amount of chances we had to convert into a goal yesterday was ridiculous, coupled with the delivery of set pieces from DB we should have easily won the game, and that is a major positive in my opinion. Yes, the result was bad, but if some of those crosses had been a couple of inches one way or the other we'd have been 2 to 3 nil up at half time. It's nothing to panic about, we just need to keep making those chances.

To be honest I was so happy to see so many balls coming from the flanks, and see our players get to the byline on so many occasions as it's something we've not had in recent seasons yet it's something we've been crying out for.

Yes, yesterday was a disjointed display, but if we get that many openings in a disjointed display I think we'll be pretty fucking awesome when we eventually get it together.

It was just one of those games, don't worry too much.

we definitely need a Berbs replacement in whether the sulky one is staying or not - we've lost a whole stack of chips in the striker poker game over the past 9 nine days or so

we're a rch club we now have to prove it - buy i a new tatrget man/front striker whatever and stick Berbs in the reserves if that's Levy/Ramos' wish

how many points have we lost iin this Berba poker game - hard to quantify - but surely one point - how much will that point be worth at the end of season?

Levy's not a complete fucking moron - he's a Cambridge-educated, hugely successful businessman who obviously sees what the rest of us see, if not a great deal more. Problem is, as the man in charge of the situation, he has a harder role to play than sitting in front of a computer typing ill-informed, emotionally-driven bollocks every time we don't play like Brazil '70.

I think in this instance, his attempt to play hardball with Manchester United has backfired, because, well, it's Manchester United, and they're well used to this eleventh hour bartering and generally always get their man.

The Corluka thing is obviously out of the ordinary because of what's going on at City, and some of the other players that we may have made bids for e.g. Veloso are of a calibre whereby they can dick us around and not commit, while waiting to see if a CL team comes in for them.

We're arguably not blameless in all of this, as we maybe could have pushed for a quicker resolution to the Berba scenario - and concentrated our signing efforts elsewhere when deals were dragging or going awry - but Levy's a businessman, and I doubt it's in his DNA to financially compromise on one of his biggest assets, or downsize his ambitions. There we go - sometimes a story can have two sides, and situations aren't always black and white.

Anyone who thinks Levy/Comolli et al. aren't working all hours to try and bring players in because of our OBVIOUS shortcomings in personnel which they OBVIOUSLY also see themselves, is fucking mental.

If I read one more post saying something like "We need a DM. FACT. Levy wot u doin?", I'll be in full agreement with Stoof as to the nature of a lot of Spurs fans. Some of the doom and gloom bollocks I read on here is just bloody incredible. If it pisses you off that much, why bother??

And instead of giving Levy 7 days, I'm going to give him 5-10 years, if the last 5 years are anything to go by.

Why thankyou. Bit of a rant there, but people need to understand that running a football club like Tottenham is, and will always be, an incredibly complicated job which goes beyond simplistic good/bad judgements.

Well we let Keane go without getting a replacement in first and it looks like the deal with Arshavin is very much in the air, so he didn't learn from the Kanoute experience. As for the milking of the Keane deal, I'm sure that Liverpool don't give a damn about having to give one million to charity.

I also don't expect Berbatov to go without getting a replacement through first
I think some criticism will be deserved of the current set up will be deserved if key areas in the squad that need to be strengthened haven't been strengthened.
