Yep, we'll finish 4th and lose in the semi-final of the Europa to Arsenal after them getting knocked out of the CL group stage. They'll then go on to finish 5th yet win the Europa, being awarded the first ever CL spot for a Europa winner at our expense. You heard it here first.

Yeah, you go ahead and rate me optimistic. ;)
I bet you cant wait for next season..

Erm...have you not heard that we would still get CL if this happened under the new rules...

No. No I have not. What is the new rule?
A maximum of 5 teams from one country can enter the CL so if, in your example, we finished 4th and Arsenal finished 5th but won the EL, we would still get into the CL, unlike in 11-12.

Oh, well in that case Chelsea will finish 6th and win the CL. :p

We wont have that problem to worry about as We will not finish fourth the teams above us have more coin and more power than us but nice try hope is a wonderful thing.

I think we have no chance that we will get into the CL for at least the next couple of seasons. I was just explaining a rule...

I predict movement!

Yes, after a prolonged period where players stand around waiting for the ball to feet, I predict a new era where players unselfishly run off the ball into space, giving the man in possession multiple options, vertical options. I predict a future where our players might sprint the length of the pitch and not receive the ball, and 2 mins later are willing to do exactly the same.

Revolution!!

I like it. Been saying this for ages. It's got worse in the last couple of years, seems to have gone backwards. AVB had a great philosophy and vision but this one of the key areas that let him down. He didn't demand enough of his attacking players and when we got into the final third we were stagnant and clueless.

It's going to be a massive ask, but Poch sounds like a determined one. Ramos, to be fair to him, saw this and tried to change it. Hopefully, Poch will be more popular with the players and use his PL experience to good use. He knows what's required. Despite Southampton's sought after players we had a better squad than them last year. Finishing above them proved this. If he can get that out of a weaker team than there should be no excuse for not doing the same here.

6th. Couple of quarter finals in cups. Better football, more entertainment. Less hammerings by top 4 please...

Think I'll chip in just before the season starts. Will have much better idea on the make up of the squad and we'll be able to see how Poch tackles pre season - not to mention what other Clubs are doing.

I would have to agree with Pinky on this one.

What I would say, though, before things change and we get a better picture of things, is that I believe we will have a good season next season. I don't buy into the mythos that our seven signings last season were all crap. Instead I see a lot of parallels with the situation when Ramos left and Redknapp took over - new, young players who didn't fir right in, a big player (or two) left, a dip in results. At that time, there were quite a few willing to label the transfer business that brought in Bale, Modric and Kaboul (yeah, Bentley, too) as utter guff. It didn't work out that bad, did it. Only this time, we finished on 69 points in spite of the managerial shenanigans, and not on 2 points from 8 games. The youth set-up and personnel have come on a lot since then - and we have some young players who genuinely could make it coming through, too.

Honestly, this could go in the Unpopular Opinions Amnesty thread, but last season was like the Nay-Sayers wet-dream. They are now wandering about in clumps, chanting and weeping, they were right, they were right. I just don't see that at all - I see one step back for two forward, and as that has happened in our recent past the possibility of it should be given much more credence.

Oh, and (more unpopular stuff) Liverpool ain't really all that: they had an incredible season, but while Citeh and Chelsea were adjusting to new management, and us and United were detoured to cluster-fahook city, they didn't have European distractions to stretch their pretty thin squad, and they got vital, morale boosting results - like at the start of the season (I watched their first 8 games) when they got results against Stoke and Swansea and Anfield that they really shouldn't have; or at the Lane when everything, including the Sky coverage/coverage team seemed to presage a Liverpool win (including AVB refusing to not play quite such a high line, which was like Nirvana to Liverpool, even though he had a right-back left-back, a central midfielder at centre-half who as recovering from injury and may, for all I know, have never played a high-line and Dawson who, well, high line HA HA, Soldado's goal at 2 - 0 being wrongly disallowed and us going down to ten men). They also had the Hillsborough thing, and the media frenzy. A good team, but come on. And this season, with Europe, an ever ageing Steven Gerard, probably no Suarez, and teams less inclined to leave wide spaces for them (same happened to us, under Redknapp).

So, FFS, stop virtually willing us into 7th and Liverpool into 2nd...'cos it really ain't necessarily so!

I'm not sure such a radical new unheard of tactic will be adopted...

Our fans are such a bunch of losers. That part of your post was spot on. You can see them now saying we've got no chance of top 5.. financially deficient, crap players.. and oh and Everton will probably over take us and my life is so shit and there just is no point.

Personally I see a new manager, 5-6 top drawer players with a point to prove and a season under their belt. I dont see why we need to throw the towel in just yet.

And thats not mentioning the new signings I would expect us to make
