Just a couple of weeks away...

Strange looking pots.... we could see groups of death... as well as a few surprises in the knock out round if we get a group like Swiss, Iran, Algeria and B-H.

can't wait for the draw, fingers crossed everyone! :)

Just for the fun of it:

Brazil, Iran, Algeria, Portugal
Uruguay, Korea, Ivory Coast, Greece
Germany, Honduras, Cameroon, Netherlands
Belgium, Mexico, Chile, England
Switzerland, Japan, Nigeria, Bosnia-Herzegovina
Spain, USA, Ecuador, Russia
Colombia, Costa Rica, Ghana, Italy
Argentina, Australia, France, Croatia

Assuming there are no restrictions.

Ideally I'd like to see England get Brazil, United States, and France. Good chance of crashing out early, so I could then actually enjoy the tournament.

I tried this simulator (http://ultra-zone.net/2014-FIFA-World-Cup-Group-Stage-Draws) 5 times and I got these groups for England:

Switzerland, USA, Algeria, England
Belgium, USA, Ecuador, England
Germany, Australia, Cameroon, England
Uruguay, Australia, Nigeria, England
Colombia, USA, Algeria, England

Not terribly exciting, and there are some tricky games, but I believe England would qualify in all of those groups.

The two I've highlighted, chance of qualifying. In Brazil, I would struggle to see England beating USA, can see a lot of Americans travelling down.

FIFA are such numpties. Switzerland and Belgium over Italy and Netherlands in Pot 1. I know they've done well but Italy were the first team to actually qualify in the group stages and Holland racked up more points than Belgium and Switzerland. They're blatantly fishing for exciting group match games.

Just realised, my sister's getting married on June 20th. God help her if England are playing that day...

That last group seems familiar!

with some luck england should make it to the knock out rounds.

unless they are in a group with Brazil/Spain/Germany + USA + France.

think most teams in pot 2 & 3 should be outclassed by England.

by the way... why are Switzerland ranked so high??? they didn't make it out of the group stage in the last WC and didn't even qualify for the Euros the last time...

I'm actually finding it difficult to put together a group we'd comfortably progress from. Switzerland/Iran/Algeria/England maybe? Fuck knows...

The only problem with this thread is that Fifa are going to announce how they are going to seed the teams in to pots. Now the seeding pots make sense which is why it wont turn out that way lol. This is Fifa remember!

i decided to do some simulations too... from here:
http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1624463/world-cup-2014-draw-simulator?cc=4716

here are my results.

Definitely a group of death in B, England should make it through and a winnable tie with Netherlands or Colombia in the next round. Group E looks like anyone games thou...

2nd Sim

Great draw for Brazil, should coast through the group and face an easy match with the runner up for group B. Group F & G looks interesting, but don't see a group of death. A slightly more tricky group for england, and a possible tough match with Belgium to follow.

3rd Sim
rrm7ab.png

Bad draw for England, group A is tough, and a tough match with Uruguay to follow. worst draw for England out of the 3. Group E is another hard one...

Even thou its not announce yet... most likely we will see...

- Brazil + Top 7
- Next Top 8 UEFA teams
- Lowest place UEFA team (France) + African and South American teams
- Asia + North Americans teams

since they want to try to separate teams from the same continent instead of seeding by rankings.

I'm actually finding it difficult to put together a group we'd comfortably progress from. Switzerland/Iran/Algeria/England maybe? Fuck knows...

Top two qualifies.. so i do think England stands a decent chance if they are group with an Asia and African team. i am looking at England as runners up. :)

Again, I agree and that makes sense but this is the organisation that announced seeding for playoff after France didnt make it through their group

I am possibly alone in saying this but there is nothing like the World Cup. It is bigger than any other sports event and incredibly enjoyable and the first time I watched a World Cup was when I started liking football. The passion is incomparable to anything else and the only thing that comes close is the Olympics. Nothing and I mean nothing (ok, maybe apart from spurs winning a trophy) gets me more excited than a World Cup.

As for the groups, I hope England get an easy group but it will probably make no difference like in the World Cup in 2010. I reckon it will be the same story with England- they will get second in the group semi-comfortably, then will either get knocked out in the last 16 and maybe, just maybe, scrape to the quarter-finals where they will definitely get knocked out.

My prediction for winners: Brazil- can't see past them except maybe for Argentina- I reckon the winner will definitely be from South America though.

HAte to say I told you so but this is how it is going to work

There are 4 pots
-Brazil + Top 7
-African + 3 remaining South American teams
-Asia + North America
-9 European teams

The teams from pot 1 automatically go to their groups depending on ranking I guess

The first draw will be done to find one of the 9 European team that will go to pot 2

Then immediately that team is drawn in to a group from pot x(only the south american teams from pot 1)
Then the group is drawn as usual ensuring with none of the 3 south american teams going in to the same group iirc.

So it could be Brazil, England, USA, France

I'd hope for a tricky group. Think we will do better than an easy group.

heck yeah bro! i am super excited about it too!!! thou not much people feel the same about it, thread rather slow...

The last World Cup was awfully boring, only made worse by every match being played in a swarm of bees and patronising 'little old Africa' commentary in every ITV game featuring an African team. I've got higher hopes for this one, hopefully the heat won't stifle the games too much.

I'm always excited about a World Cup, but I'd be just as excited if England weren't in it. Just the fact that it's four weeks of almost continuous football with games almost every day is enough to excite me.

All I hope for is a tournament that's exciting and full of quality games.
