What do we do against Burnley on Friday? I think we are in with a chance of winning the FA cup, but do we try some of the kids and rest a couple of key players? Two weeks off to get people fit after that game, and hopefully we’ve regrouped and got the likes of VDV, Cuti and Maddison back for United.
We go for the win with our strongest team!

Hopefully Pool v Newcastle will end in a draw and either a draw or Brighton win in the other game on Tuesday. Keeps Liverpool in touch and a nice gap between 5th and 6th

As full strength as possible. We don't play again until 14th.

Before our injury crisis began, we were top of the league and unbeaten. We are 100% in the title race.
We were, but I'm more excited by the thoughts that:
  1. We were top but not really convincing in the position as the team were all adjusting to new tactics and we weren't outscoring teams by much.
  2. Bentancur was not playing any of those games
  3. Richy was injured and playing with a mentality issue that seems to have been fixed.
  4. Johnson was not up to speed.
  5. Our bench was not all that but by the end of Jan we should be a bit stronger.
If everything falls into place we could become very awesome very quickly. We could take this league (and everyone watching it) by surprise. Just need to keep it tight like this until then...

adversity builds winners. We have been through it this season injuries, suspensions, club and lets be honest league legend leaving without a direct replacement and we are still in touching distance. Why not dream.
It can do if the people going through it are strong mentally and if they’re managed well and most of our now current squad have a good mentality and Ange manages them well.

As for this season I think we are in a race for anything from 3rd-6th, however as has been the case a few times in our past the January transfer window is hugely important due to some very key squad weaknesses.

Top level sport is about fine fine margins.

It’s not as simple as this but I think it will work out something roughly like the below:
1) We sign just a CB in Jan = 4th-6th place finish
2) We sign a CB and an attacking player in Jan = we finish 3rd-5th
3) We sign a CB and an attacking player and a central midfielder to upgrade on PEH & Skipp all in Jan = we finish 3rd-5th but would give ourselves an outside chance at the title this season

Either way this season should be a huge stepping stone to hopefully a massive next season.

If we make 2 signings in Jan I think we should have enough for at least a Champions League finish which in Ange’s first season in charge and with losing Kane and with all of these injuries and suspensions would be frankly an incredible achievement.

If we are there abouts come end of January, and son is back. We are most certainly in this title race. At full strength only city can match us, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they go on a run now de Bruyne is back.

We'd have to be in touching distance when we arrive in Feb to have any chance. Personally, I think we'll struggle at Utd as they always seem to put in a spirited performance at OT.

For the league, I think it'll come down to Liverpool and City once again.

Their home form isn’t particularly good. They have lost four of their ten home matches this season (winning the other six) and have a -3 goal difference across those matches. We may well struggle on the night but there are many harder places to go to this season.

Looking at pur remaining fixtures we need to go on a decent run between now and the start of April to get points on the board, as in April we hit a run of fixture which is Newcastle, Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool. For me results from those will determine where we finish, and think we might be surprised

Some of those wins have been fortunate as well. Wolves and Forest for example. Even Luton gave them a lot of problems. I cannot think of any game when Utd have played well. Half a game. 30 mins or so.
Even the 3-0 win at Everton was misleading .Goal of a lifetime from Garnacho , penalty as well. Everton had nearly all the play and couldn’t score.
They cannot cope with a high press , their midfield is non existent. Eriksen seems to be really struggling physically. Only thing in their favour might be Martinez coming back into defence.
If Micky is back, every chance of a win.

Imagine if we start getting a couple of penalties and get back Maddison on set pieces.

If you want to win the league, you're going to essentially have to unbeaten for the rest of the year. City are going to put up 85 points minimum

Embarrassing for Arsenal and Chelsea, that. And even more so for United, who don't even show on this list!
United have only scored 22 all season. That's level with Palace and only Burnley and Sheff Utd behind them.

Their position in the table feels completely false. They should not be any better than Chelsea.

When I think of the turgid crap we've been offering up for a good four seasons, seeing us actually threatening from open play is a joyous treat. Getting Madders back on set pieces will definitely help with set piece goals, and we're due a few pens.

If we can get through the next month (AFCON, Asia Cup, Injuries) then the squad will start to look really bloody strong. If we can keep up with the pack until the end of Jan (and we only have 1 prem game until the 31st) and get some players back, then we're in a bloody good place

Watching Liverpool last night, pundits saying they are right in the title race. Their defence looks wide open at times but surprisingly they have the best defence in the league. Only 18 goals conceded.
only lost once this season, to us.
Man for man we are not that far away.
Depending on City hitting form, the title race is wide open.

What happened with that apparently non licensed agent business regarding the Defoe transfer? Everyone shit the bed then its gone very quiet.

Can see us going on a miraculous run of form to top the table only then a few games before the end of the season to be docked points for this unlicensed agent from 15 years ago.

Yeah, I think it depends on whether Man C find their usual form. If they do; then they’ll probably win the league easily this year. But if not, then the league is wide open. If we hang in there for the next few weeks while VdV Romero, Maddison etc return, I would give us a good chance of at least keeping up with Liverpool and Arsenal.

I personally believe our set piece deliveries since Madders' been out has been superb by Porro. Even before Madders' injury, our best corners were from Perisic. Biggest issue recently is we haven't had much height with all the injuries/suspensions. Before Richy and Romero returned our only Aerial threat was Davies. Currently it's him, Richy and Bentancur.

All considered, we have actually done well defending set pieces and seemed to have worked on them after conceding vs Villa and City.
