in terms of the team development maybe not but we know how it works with the purse strings. The reason Arsenal are where they are is because they spent about 150-200 two summers in a row. We need to do that but we won't if we don't get the extra income
Ange has said whether it’s CL or EL, our summer business won’t be changing and he’s spot on. We will never sign a £100m+ player under Levy and I think it’s even less likely now with this new data-led model.

Also, if we’re being cynical, you could say Levy is under some pretty intense pressure to spend a decent amount this summer given the fans unanimously back Ange and because he’s raised ST prices. Fans will want to see how their money is being spent.

Provably being naive , but I'm under the impression we have alot of money to spend whichever competition we're in. *if we want to that is

I sort of hope 5th doesn’t offer up Champions League football. We aren’t ready in the slightest bit. I’d much rather enter the Europa League and be amongst the favourites to win that. We don’t have the threat of Kane throwing a strop for not being in the CL anymore + Levy and co raising the ticket prices despite us turning over the 8th most revenue in the world pretty much ensures we have the money to spend regardless.
The vast majority of teams in the champions league are not ready for it . But they are in it and give it a go.
why not get relegated and we would walk that. Strange view on things. Don’t enter in case we get battered.

Have to be honest , I agree with Ange. Being in the champions league shouldn't be looked at as an achievement and I'm not convinced it changes much for us going forwards.
He didn’t say that. Of course it’s an achievement but he said it isn’t a golden ticket. Nothings guaranteed just because you get in the champions league

What?

We genuinely aren’t ready. We have a young squad and some very talented academy players who would actually benefit from playing in the first team. There is no such thing as rotation when you’re playing PL/CL football in rotation. You play your best XIs and rotate when injuries arise. With the EL, we’d be able to give genuine game time to our squad and the likes of Dorrington/Phillips, Scarlett, Moore, Donley, Lankshear, etc. Kane only got his chance because he kept scoring in the EL and Poch couldn’t ignore him any longer.

Well not in as many words but he said tonight " part of the narrative is to push you into these positions where you think fourth is some sort of achievement. "

Golden ticket comment was pre match press conference

Do we think we'll get dates for the City game this week?

Surely likely to be 14/15th May...

They cant wait to the 16/17th April (CL second legs QF) to set a date after Knowing whether Cty advance to CL semi finals....freeing up two more weeks....

Surely that wouldnt be enough notice for fans....

I think Champions League football is important to the club and some of my best moments as a Spurs fan have been in the Champions League.

But I don’t think it’s the be all, all in terms of progressing as a club. Arsenal were out of the Champions League for years- they missed out that season to us- now look at them.

Liverpool aren’t in the Champions League this season.

Man U were in the Champions League this season.

Champions League is important to the clubs revenue base.... but I'm not bothered with qualifying ....I would rather we started winning trophies like Caroboa/ FA Cup or Europa as an example.

When did we ever take the Europa seriously, the players often looked like they didn’t want to be there

All of our best moments in the last 20 years of European Football have been in the CL. Being in the "weaker" competition has never once benefited us in any real way

Besides the extra money, which we won’t use anyway, I honestly don’t see the positives of being in the Champions League next season. We don’t have the squad quality to be able to rotate between CL & PL and I don’t think our summer business will bring us close enough to do that either. The new format is brutal as well. 8 mid week games and potentially another 2 play off games if we failed to qualify outright.

Whilst the EL follows the same new format, we would be able to rotate as the level of opposition will be much worse. We also currently have pretty much no path way for our academy players. Keeping the likes of Dorrington, Phillips, Devine, Moore, Donley, Lankshear and Veliz around for the “group” stage would be hugely beneficial for their development.

Im happy to be proven wrong on this but like I said at the top of the post, I really don’t see the benefit of playing in the CL next season besides the money. I don’t accept simply playing in the best European competition a viable reason. We qualified too soon under Conte and it did us no good. I’d much rather give our squad and talented academy an opportunity to put themselves forward into Ange’s thinking.

It gave Kane the opportunity he needed to convince Poch he should be starting in the PL.
Cant argue with that one. Maybe i should have worded it better and said that doing better in the Europa has never actually happened. Our best results and best runs have been CL. We haven't done much in the "easier" competition

Arsene Wenger said it was a trophy!

Conte also said it was like a “miracle”.

We seem to have this culture at the club where we are obsessed with fourth position. I like the fact Ange is calling that into question. Fourth is just fourth we need to focus on finishing as high as possible.

Yeah but Kane is Kane. You can’t use him as a typical example of what you can do with young players in the Europa League. Kane is one of the best players in decades, across all clubs and countries.

Yeah but I am, because Adebayor and Soldado were starting ahead of him every week before he took the EL by storm.

How do we know Mikey Moore isn’t going to become one of the best in the world, or Donley? Dorrington? Bergvall? They need opportunities to show how good they are and the EL can give that to them. Besides, I don’t trust our ability to find decent loan moves for any of our young players. Even Kane looked a dud at his loan clubs.

But Kane is the exception who proves the rule. We don’t remember all the players in the last twenty years who never made it. I don’t disagree that the Europa was a good opportunity for Kane but there have been hardly any other players coming through this route and also Kane probably would have come through anyway.
