We knew there would be ups and downs this season.

But those downs really are annoying.

Me too. Happy with the season but everytime I feel confident we could achieve that slight bit higher, a game like Fulham happens.

I felt exactly the same. I think in the moment, whatever the circumstances are it's never going to be 'easy' to just feel blasé over a loss, and especially one's that come with a performance like that. For me it's only when the dust settles, and you have a moment of reflection that you realise it's far from the end of the world, and you accept it given the position as a team that we're currently in.

The Fulham one came with a bit of added frustration for me because it felt even more familiar than any other average loss, and it really felt like the Tottenham of old.

It does get very tiring though, and it's these situations that you really hope we'll manage to reduce after a couple of seasons with Ange. It's why I felt the Fulham game was so much bigger of a test than the Villa one. Even style of opponent/pitch aside, it was the mental capabilities that were going to be put to the test, and we really failed in that regard.

This made me laugh as it really is the perfect analogy of Spurs & Villa fighting over 4th place

I'm old enough to remember all of our past top four battles.

the reason that we are in the top four battle is that we are wildly inconsistent, like Villa and United. There will be lots of dropped points over the next few months from everyone.
I remember Peter Crouch at the Etihad before it was called the Etihad. That's how I know we'll get fourth. COYS, Daniel.

What I don't understand is how so many players went off form at exactly the same time. Maddison, Bissouma, Bentancur, Kulu - none look like they're anywhere near their best. And we saw their best not that long ago. It's weird. We need two or three to get back to their top level asap if we want 4th imo.

I was there. The person next to me punched the air when we scored, hit my chin and nearly knocked me out. What a night

I had a similar experience in the quarters at Anfield in 95 - got hit in the face when Teddy scored and broke my glasses in two. Good job i wasnt the one driving back to London :)

I think we'll finish fifth. I reckon we'll get a max of 13 points from our remaining games and think Villa will get 14.

I just don't see us getting anything from our away matches of West Ham, Newcastle, Liverpool & Chelsea, I can see us losing all four of them.

No way we'll lose all four of them.

We'll get beat at Anfield, but we'll take points in some of the other three.

We'll have more space just like Villa away.

Stilll think 4th for us.

Am I correct in thinking the final fixtures are...

West Ham, Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle & Sheff Utd Away

Arsenal, City, Forest & Burnley at Home

As of yet no confirmed dates for our rearranged fixture of City @ Home & Chelsea Away?

I think we take 7pts from those Away fixtures and 10pts at home so a final pts tally of 73pts which in the last 4/5 seasons would have been enough for 3rd/4th.

I don't think Villa get anything from Arsenal & City Away. I also think they get beaten by Liverpool. I know we have a tough run in but theirs is pretty horrible too with City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Brighton, Bournemouth, Palace & Brentford.

We're playing against teams that will come at us. Aside from West Ham none of those sides are going to park the bus. And that will suit us.

I also wonder if the form of our players is because we're playing sides that low block? Bissouma, Deki, Maddison all struggling to find space in the game

Watkins went off at HT yesterday with a Hamstring injury and will be a big miss for Villa if it leads to a prolonged absence.

Don’t think they will catch us - as 13pts and 8 games is a big gap. But Newcastle are probably favourites to win in all their remaining matches. So our game against them is important.

But they could easily catch and overtake Man Utd and West Ham.

Sadly i agree with you. Might beat Newcastle but think we will get the usual voodoo bad luck against Chelski & Spammers cup final.
Hopefully we are both wrong.

They are ravaged by injuries though. Their squad is thread bare.
