Just throwing this idea in the hat, as it’s something I’ve been discussing with the old man, and that is the possibility of trying out Trippier in midfield.
We currently have 3 LB’s in Trippier, Aurier and KWP and, as has been repeated on here as nauseum, we are lacking a ball playing midfielder alongside our DM’s.
We have Carabao Cup games upcoming, which I feel is the perfect opportunity to give KWP more game time. It’s also the perfect opportunity to see if Trippier can slot into a right sided midfield role, deep lying, where he can thread balls into the channels. You have the added bonus of Trippier already having defensive capabilities where he can either fill the hole when the fab bombs forward, or support the fb when the opposition attack that flank. You also have the option for Trippier to get down the flank himself with the fb backing him up.
His lack of pace would be less of an issue in the role and we all know he can pick a pass. I likened the role to the role Beckham had for Utd.
I’m interested to see what flaws there may be in my reasoning, or if anyone else thinks that it might just be a viable option.
Jol turned Dembele from a striker to a midfielder, Redknapp turned Bale from a LB to a winger, any reason why Poch couldn’t convert a RB into a playmaker?
just because they are on the left when you see the team sheet, they usually play as right backs
