vs Liverpool 2-1 (BAE, Bassong)
vs Hull 5-1 (Defoe x3, Keane, Mr. Wilson)
vs West Ham 2-1 (Defoe, Lennon)
vs Doncaster 5-1 (Hudd, O'Hara, Pav, Bents, Crouch)

That's 4 wins in 4 games, with 14 goals scored by 11 different players!

Over the whole of last season we had 15 scorers and that's including the players we bought in January, such as Defoe and Keane. After 7 PL games we only had 2 players who had scored; Jenas and Bent. JOH, Pav and Bentley scored in CC and Uefa games but it was very clear before the new year last year that we weren't scoring enough and as a team we weren't chipping in together.

From our most played starting 11, only King, Corluka and Modric and the 2 keepers have not scored.

We have needed a true goalscorer from midfield for a long time, and we still don't have one, but hopefully a lot of players can chip in and that will help us.

without getting carried away - let's trash Birmingham 6-0. King, Charlie, Modric, Gio, Hutton and Carlo (Robbo style) with the goals!

coys.

It's absolutely clear then that we need Robbo back before the end of the window. To have 2 keepers that have not scored is not good enough and quite frankly a glaring soft spot.

im worried about the clean sheets to an extent, but if you can score more thna the opposition who cares, its all about winning. Im sure if we have a tight 1-0 affair we can grind out the result when needed.

Harry was talking about this after the WH game. That we're going to play very attacking football and have a go at everyone. Might cause us some harm against the better teams, but that's how we'll play.

Yes games and goals is great. No point comparing with this time last season as we had our worst start since the early 20th century. Anybody got our avergae stats for first 4/6/8/10 games ?

Well there's another thread on defending but I prefer commenting in a more uplifting thread...

I think you have to remember that last night we were playing with Bassong = 3rd/4th (or equal with Dawson) and Corluka = 5th choice CBs.

In the league we've only played King twice and both were a new partneship with Bassong so bound to make the odd error/look a bit nervy.

Then on the goals themselves, you can mention that the goal against the scousers was Gomes' rush of blood and that we looked solid otherwise.

Goal against Hull was just after Gomes was replaced with Cudicini and a floating cross-shot

Goal against Spam was a belter on the turn from nearly 30 yds (but I suppose we could easily have conceded as couple)

Goal last night was a slip and unlucky hand ball (though we could have been 2 down in first 10 mins)

All watery excuses but I think with a bit more luck we could have had a couple of clean sheets and nobody would be mentioning it

Unfortunately in football even if you have the two best strikers in the world upfront you get those days when the ball just won't go in and its then that you need to keep a clean sheet.

I settle for a few less goals and more clean sheets, but hey its all good so far.

Modric has probably had more chances than most to score.

I have however noticed a key weakness is improving. His limp weak shots on goal have a little more zip on them than last season.

I think someone is working him on strength and technique. It is a little odd to see a Spurs player improve from coaching. It still does not compute.

I'm going to take the credit for our excellent start to the season, having been in France for the last 3 weeks and missed every game so far. Oh well, I'm back and normal service shall resume! :)

Maybe we should tempt Chilavert out of retirement to address the goalscoring keeper question.

On a serious note I notice after the West Ham game that we'd had 6 different goal scorers and thought that was a good sign. If we score 20+ league goals from midfield and defence combined then thats a massive step in the right direction, and I think its possible with our gung-ho approach.
