For 20 years I’ve planned my year ahead around Spurs fixtures. Planned my weekends round them. Friends and family know that they need to prepare to plan around them. I very rarely miss a league game at home and it has become habit for me and nearly 30,000 other Spurs fans. There’s tens of thousands of Spurs fans who are new to this level of commitment. Especially at this time of year. It’s fine in August when you’ve just got your first season ticket. But a few months later you’re still adjusting your life around it and Christmas may be adding to your other distractions, financially and time wise. It’s a transitional period. Fans will come and go. The hardcore will mostly remain and will slowly build until they too have wondered what they could have spent 20 years worth of ticket money, travel money and other Spurs related expenses on.
I should have got a dog. Although it would have gone the same way as Ken Dodd’s Dad’s one by now.
