No way will Keane let Jones go—he's the only striker of the bunch that came up from the Championship last summer that looks capable of making it. Carragher reckons he's the hardest Premiership striker to deal with in the air, and although Carragher's a bit of a knob I'd take his opinion on that pretty seriously. Considering he's had Adebayor to cope with, that's high praise. Given the current crazy prices, you'd be looking at £10m starters.

In three seasons we've had to call on the services of our fourth striker just the once—when Barney had to be roped in at the end of 2005-2006. People are talking about a worst-case scenario situation that is unlikely to arise in reality, and we have two strikers (assuming Berbatov doesn't fuck off) who are more than capable of playing the lone role up front if need be.

A goalscoring winger, please. Another Cliff Jones on the left would be nice.

Have you seen mifsud play?

I saw Mifsud play pretty much week in, week out for Lillestrom in Norway before he went to Coventry. He's found his level now, don't think he'd be able to make it in the PL.

He isn't a winger, he's a tiny little striker with lightning pace who can be used on the wing but prefers to play as a striker always on the offside line feeding off long passes behind the defence and flick-ons from a taller striker partner. At least he was in Norway.

Thanks Marty. seen him for cov and always looks dangerous but you obviously know more about the lad than me.

Wouldn't Taarabt or Rose be likely candidates for the fourth forward role? At the end of the day, Berbatov, Keane and Bent can all play the striker role, so any fourth choice is more likely to be a forward/attacking mid anyway. I wouldn't mind seeing either of those two there in a crisis. Or Lennon for that matter.

Mifsud's not a bad player by any means. His attitude is not the best and his relationship with the Lillestrom board and management wasn't good the last six months or so he was there after he demanded a transfer. But we can definitely do better and I'd be surprised if he became a regular PL goalscorer.

Following the topic of ex-Lillestrom players but straying slightly away from the 4th striker topic, Robert Koren, WBA's Slovenian midfielder, was a player I saw for Lillestrom where he played an attacking midfielder kind of role, sometimes even second striker so may be kind of relevant here. Not sure how good he's been for WBA but when he was in Norway I was thinking he'd end up being really good for a club like Everton, Villa or Pompey.

I see. Have you seen young Ebanks-Blake play?

No. I think I've watched one Championship game in its entirety this season. I believe it involved Bristol City, but I can't recall who they were playing. It was, however, bloody awful.

Why do we need a fourth striker again, lol? Haven't we got enough strikers? Which other teams have four strikers?

Benjani Mwaruwari (or however you spell is surname) went to Shitty so Pompey could finance the Defoe deal.

Who on earth is Umbungo?

Other than that, good list, although players like Maloney, Young, Utaka and Kalou are more wingers/attacking midfielders than strikers.

Ok, that's me told :).

We still don't need four strikers though. Waste of time.

You are doing a great job of picking out the odd name from a big list and questioning it, without being over knowledgeable thus throwing the whole concept into question without any sound reasoning to back up your argument.

well done.
