23m for the gang of 4.
3.5m Robbo
2.5m Gardner
25m Berbatov
18m Keane
plus maybe Lee, Stalteri, Rocha, another 5m

Can we buy enough quality in time when we wont pay the wages of a Manure, Chelski, not to mention the spanish and Italian giants ? I see that as our major difficulty along with our policy of not paying big transfer fees unless there is future resale value. Both understandable but one or both policies may have to go out the window or we won't get the players in we badly need.

But we bought Woodgate, Hutton, Modric and Dos Santos as our last four signings so seems the policy works fine?

We did indeed. But now we are faced with a shortage of top quality in key positions and one month to bring them in.To replace Berbatov and Keane we need world class strikers and the names being put forward will imo not fit our wage structure . Fine if we are prepared to bend it . But are we ?And for DM and CD we need experienced players who may not have much resale value.

The kid Jansson seems to be highly rated too, so we're probably ok for 'keepers...

I can't see Lee, Stalteri, Rocha help us to get another 5m, Lee £1m, Stalteri £1m and Rocha £2m ( if not loaned ) .. only if Ekotto added to them.

The kid Jansson seems to be highly rated too, so we're probably ok for 'keepers...

I didn't see Alnwick, but he looks like 3rd option, Ramos signed de Sanctis even he had Palop as 1st choice, I know it was on free transfer. But I'm sure Ramos would love two experienced GKs to make competition between them, as he did with Robbo and Cerny, I can't see him doing that with Alnwick who wasn't used in EPL before.

even Jansson, I hope he is highly rated and would be good enough to be 3rd, but He is too young and if the mean two missing, it would be big gamble, so new GK as backup and Alnwick 3rd ( whether in reserve team or loaned to championship team with option to recall him ) .. and I hope Jansson will be loaned to Champioship team to get first team football.

I don't know if it's set in stone yet, but Gardner is going to be loaned out, not sold. So the £2.5 mil estimate may need to be dropped from the total figure. OK, 2.5 mil isn't much as part of £77 mil, but other players may be loaned rather than sold too. Plus, Kaboul is apparently not going for anywhere near £7 mil, so that reduces the overall figure too.

Bye bye to having a big squad that can cover for injuries.

24-25 very good squad far better than 30-32 squad ( with 15 average players )

we didn't need most of them, and if there are too many players missing, we should give the players from the academy their chance to shine.

I don't see how much is changing with regards to that. Last season when we had injuries, we weren't happy because the players coming in to cover for our starting 11 weren't good enough.

If all this means is having less deadwood players to rotate into the team then I'm all for it. I'd rather have a quality player play more games and risk him becoming jaded/injured than have a mediocre/poor player take his place to reduce the risk.

It's true what they say, when you're fighting it out in the mid-table, you've got to field your best 11 at every oppurtunity. So I think it's only right we start tipping our squad more to the quality side of things rather than quantity.

The players we are selling though all done a great job when it was asked of them. You can't say that any one of them was any worse than good cover.

And yet, with the money we are making from these sales we seem to be aiming below what we can afford, opting for Arshavin and the other Russian I'm not even going to try to spell.

Why not go for Villa and Garcia/Huntelaar?

Apparently, Villa's agent has said that he would be interested in coming to Spurs. That would be nice.

oscar jansson - reserve goalkeeper. Has been seeing some action in spain so must be looking ok. Him and alnwick will fight it out for the no.2 spot it seems, although he is only 17 or 18 i think:shrug:

Having a war chess is not the problem imo. Doesnt care how much money we have, if the players that we deem as quality or first class eg Eto'o does not want to come and play for us, this £77 million transfer fund as you call it, is just sitting in the bank.

For the past several weeks we have been linked to everyone and his dog, by so called ITKs, so where are they? I know that transfers can take time but other teams seem to be doing them, even us are selling, so why are we not then buying?

i think we all agree that that would be fan-bloody tastic! but arshavin was probably the best player at the euros...why spurs? and villa was top scorer..and bentley one of englands brighter prospects...i am loving the fact we are being linked with such players!
