Was chatting with my mate tonight, about the game tomorrow, and next season. We came to the conclusion that we wouldnt mind not getting into Europe next season, as it leaves us free to have a go at other things. We talked about the year we should have been 4th and all that, and how we were out of everything early. So all in all, if we only have one/two things to concentrate on next season, it will be good for our league form, and possible allow us to have a good run in a cup.

If we did do the impossible and finish fourth, what difference would it make if we didn't even reach the knockout stage? If we had have clinched fourth place way back when we might even have been knocked out in the qualifying stages due to our complete lack of experience in Europe at the time.

I feel that it's important to qualify for Europe this season to build on the experience we've garnered from the last three seasons. Also, for the first time since I can remember we have the strength in depth to compete in all cup competitions.

After that defeat I don't think we will finish 7th, unless wet spam and fulham come down with food poisoning on the last day of the season.....

I Can't see us getting 7th now, still next season is what is important. We needed to stay up this year (we did that) now we need to build in the summer and come out as a stronger force for next season.

I don't think todays result will change our final position either way. Man U are the champs for a reason. They are really fucking good its that simple. It hurts that we lost our lead in such a fashion but thats football for you.

I agree that our result was always likely to be a defeat. Fulham and Man City winning makes a big differnce though I think, plus the -3 to our goal differnce can't help.

Ok heres my take. I would want us to finish as high as possible but for next season the uefa cup is in my opinion an unwanted distraction. We had our most consistant league season when we were 1 win away from finishing fourth and only played 40 games. We cannot realistically aim for 4th and progress to the latter stages of the Europa cup - Just look at Villa

I think Fulham will get 7th anyway. The Europa cup are for shit teams like Fulham and West Ham who will never have the ambition of finishing 4th. IT IS ALL ABOUT THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

I do agree totally Bubble, although still I hope we get 7th...I will not be disapointed at all if we are not in Europe next year (1 step back for 2 forward hopefully)

well I didn't think it was likely before today and thought that fulham would get it - now it's even unlikelier for us

I think Fulham will get it - our GD is not so good now, shame really but at least it will mean that Fulham will struggle next season with all the extra games and with such a small squad

I actually see 7th as vital. Otherwise, we could struggle this summer to convince our younger prospects such as Bale and Gunter, Taarabt, even Hudd and JOH who are on the fringes of the first team etc to stay next season since they might be thinking that they'll barely get a game (the likes of Bostock and Parrett are younger so I don't think they'll be as demanding yet). I'll be especially worried if Fulham take 7th since they've been linked to our players.

Imo it'd be a shame to let our younger talents go so early just because we don't really have room for them in the league atm, with some patience they could turn out to be pretty special so we should be trying our best to hold on to them. We don't have to play our most important first teamers in the Europa Cup, we have enough strength in depth to go pretty far before fielding stronger teams. The experience will do them good too and they'd have chances to impress Harry.

So COYS, I'd love it, just love it if we win against Rednose today :)

If we're not good enough to do well in the Europa Cup then we're not good enough for the Champions League.

Full steam ahead against City and Pool, and hopefully Fulham realise that Europa isn't for little clubs like them.

Spurs are a big club with a big squad which should be capable of holding their own in the Europa Cup. top player need top games not the bench or reserves, full stop.

We need to beat City and hope Fulham lose there last 2 games if we are to get Euro footy next season. With Newcastle winning last night hopefully they will do us a favour on Saturday and we can do the business against City. That takes us to 51 pts, Fulham on 50, West Ham on 48 (cant see them getting at Everton) and City out of it on 47. Final day as much as I would love to see us get something, I think we wont get much change out of the Bin Dippers hence need Everton to do us a huge favour and beat Fulham away. A draw is no good to us in that game as Fulham have a better GD. Moyes will have to get his team up for that game with it being just a week before cup final.

Personally speaking I think we have missed our chance and am hoping for a few snookers to get back into Europe!

Actually, we are 'good enough' for the CL, or, more accurately, good enough to get as far as the group stage.

What staggering arrogance about Fulham!

Well so far my predictions in the opening post have proved pretty accurate. Would be nice to be proved wrong by Everton winning or even drawing at Fulham last day . But I just cant see it even if they lose at Newcastle. As I said we needed to improve our goal difference against Newcastle and West Brom and unfortunately it just got worse at Old Trafford.
It wasn't a bad result drawing at Everton but if 7th meant a lot to us we should have shown more ambition in the second half. Now we will almost certainly have to win our last 2 games and that is pretty unlikely.
Still , all credit to Fulham if they make it- remarkable turnaround from last season.

I will stick with my orginal comment, in the same kind of thread back in the 1st week in March...Which was No we wont make 7th..I predicted a max of 50 points for us..And that seems like it is going to pretty spot on. I also said, 54 points might just be enough for 7th..I think that still could be true.

Fulhams game against Newcastle will be a very difficult game(after their win against boro) i think it will be a draw...there final game at home to everton, I think they will win, Eve will have nothing to play for. Ful 54pts.

Eve v WHam...difficult to call, i think a draw Wham last game at home to boro...I think a win to Wham 52 points

Us v Man C..well if we win thats city out of the race for 7th (equally us if the reverse)...I think this is a really tough call...right now im 51% draw 49% win... Our last game away too pool...Sorry i think we will lose. So max for us 51pts. And as i have given us 3pts against city, thats them out of the chase.

This saturday we shall beat Man City, Everton shall beat West Ham and Newcastle, rejuvenated and confident after last night, shall beat Fulham. We will be 7th, Fulham a point behind in 8th, and both West Ham and Man City unable to catch us on the final day. Then, final day comes, we're at Liverpool while Fulham are home v Everton so we might need a scouse favour. Hopefully Liverpool will be deflated having been beaten to the title the previous weekend by Man U, and maybe even play a few fringers who are on their way out in the summer to say goodbye to the home fans.

I'm confident, and if we beat Spam and West Ham and Fulham both lose this weekend, all of which is probably, I will be very confident.

well I wrote on 24/4

'I did the predictor last week and fulham finished 7th - which surprised me and I was doing the predicting!

I think west ham may pick up a bonus point or 3 now that CFC are out of the title race

so to answer the post - no I don't think 7th is likely

I reckon we have about a 30% chance - certainly under 51%'

so far my predictor (which was done before the weekend of 18/4) that fulham would get 7th is looking good

(tho I hope i'm wrong and we get it)

- I thought west ham might get something v cfc but they didn't - then again I didn't expect them to beat stoke

we could yet get an unlikely point at pool -

all very difficult to call

I just hope we beat city then the permutations will be a lot easier to untangle
