No. Top 4 would still get cl I believe.

However I'm not sure what would happen if 2 English teams won either comp and both finished outside the top 4.
Yep, 5 English teams can get through to the CL from next season.

I think UEFA haven't thought of what would happen in the scenario you've written of- it would be so so unlikely though

I read an article from twitter the other day that stated that in the unlikely event of this happening, then 4th place in the league would miss out

You know that the one time it ever happens, we will be the team in 4th

I'm curious as to what happens if the Europa league winners qualify through their league position though - does it go to the runner up, to the nation's league or just to no one?

If you want to clutch at straws, I believe we are 3rd in the Fair Play League behind Liverpool and Arse. That will get us in also.

*edit. We are 4th. Also behind Everton. Still....

That brings back memories of the not-so-distant past, when we weren't miserable because we failed to qualify for the CL, but rather would be anxiously checking our position in the fair play league (always very good, due to our tradition of being nice to our opponents and not doing nasty things like tackle them), in the hope of just sneaking a spot in the inter-Toto...

So no matter how bad it seems, we are after all fighting (though usually unsuccessfully) for a CL place these days year after year, for a long time our expectations were so much less...

Winning the EL next season qulifies you for the 2015/16 CL, is this at the expense of the fourth place team because with Arsenal and Utd in it I think a third place will be needed.
I can just see it; Spurs first and only club to finish fourth and not qualify as CL won by English club and then first and only club to finish fourth and fail to qualify as an English side wins EL.

I can't imagine why, but if this is indeed what is technically the case, I just feel absolutely certain it will occur.

I really hope we get into one of the European competitions, its good worldwide exposure for our club and good ground work for our players to be able to interchange between to styles...don't understand why anyone would want out.

The players have to stand up to the challenge.
So how did this 'interchange of styles' do this season then? We're gonna finish lower than we have done for a few years and we're ending up potless. And before anyone says anything, we've now been playing Euro games for a few years. That's enough time to learn the ropes.
Can't some of you learn anything from Liverpool?
Long live the small club mentality.

I have no knowledge on this but I assume it would go to the runner up in the Europa

But then what if the runner up had also qualifed for the CL already via their league position?

Maybe it would just have to go to the next highest place team in the domestic league of the winners

Well, I don't understand them either. If one is to learn how to run they must first learn how to walk.

I would be very depressed if we can't even manage to qualify for this tournament.

Chance to qualify for CL and win a cup in one tournament. In addition to that new opponents from all over Europe, some good away days to come. Why would you say no?

Assuming we get a manager in not called Shteve McClaren in, players will come for the manager/HC and money. Not the EL. So yeah, qualify for it or not, it's not make or break either way.

Get it right this time Daniel or just fuck off please. Also, if Franco hasn't had most input in this decision then just give him his papers and stop wasting everyone's time with this DoF flirtation of yours.

A new twist, if Arse win the FA Cup and finish 5th, they get EL as cup winners and the EL moves to 6th and 7th place. Apparently both teams cannot qualify from the FA Cup.

At some point, sooner rather than later, Spurs WILL play CL again. When that time comes, we'll benefit from EL participation due to stacking up points for the UEFA Club coefficients. The better placed on the UEFA ranking, the easier matching through the group stage in CL. Thus, at the end of the day, I'm in favour of EL football.

Yeah when UEFA allow 5th, 6th, and 7th place teams to get into the CL.

Can someone answer me this:

Will all seven of the top teams including us be playing European football next season? Or is 6th place the cut off point? Does this depend on whether Arsenal win the FA Cup?

It's just that with all 7 teams in either the Europa League or Champions League it will be very intriguing to see how the league pans out next year with a level playing field if you like. This season Liverpool and Everton have been out of European competition and they seem to have benefited from that enormously looking at the intensity of the football they play.

European football means two games in a week, more fatigue, more injuries, more squad rotation and less preparation time. It is highly significant to how a team can perform in the league.

No they've got that wrong. Europa only goes to 7th if both the FA Cup winner and runner up have already qualified, and this year Arsenal are the only semi finalist who look set to qualify via their league position. Piss poor journalism.

If that´s piss poor journalism, can you give us the source to your correct info?

For example the premierleague.com does not give an answer to whats happen for the runner-ups in the scenario where the fa-cup winners finish 5th.

Let's assume:
Top 3 between Pool, City and Chelsea- CL football
4th- Everton-CL
5th- Arsenal
6th- Tottenham
7th- Manchester United

Now, if Arsenal were to win the Fa Cup, then they're Europa League place would go to Hull wouldn't it? Because Arsenal have already qualified. So Arsenal would take up the 5th place spot, Hull would take up the Fa Cup spot and Sunderland would take up the CoC spot.

Although i'm still not 100% sure if there is an additional league spot if Arsenal finish 5th at the expense of Hull.

This from the Premier League suggests that there is no spot for the runners up of the CoC. So in this case 6th place would get into the EL at the expense of Sunderland.

"Should the FA Cup winners, runners-up (if applicable) and the Football League Cup winners already have qualified for Europe, their place goes to the next best placed clubs in the Premier League."

Fucking confusing.

Can't someone get one of those petitions together, I'm sure thousands of football fans would sign it, getting this debacle of CL failures dropping into the Europa ?

You're forgetting that after UEFA bravely and honestly applies their FFP rules, ManC will be kicked out of the CL! Meaning (1) Arsenal finish 5th and still get into the CL, whereas we managed to finish 4th and did not and (2) even if we slump down to 8th place, we still get stuck in the Europa.

This coupled with the fact that we've not finished worse than 5th in years, and the one year we don't 5th is good enough for CL, would prove convincingly that the universe is ruled by the forces of evil, as the Zorastrians believe.

Thank goodness that there is not the slightest chance UEFA will apply any meaningful sanctions to the moneybags clubs thumbing their noses at their regulations.

Hull are in the Europa league from making the FA Cup final arent they? Would Arse coming 5th have any bearing on this, I dont think so.

So I'm guessing it will be:
Top 4 in CL
5th in Europa (arse / everton)
6th in Europa (us / man u)
Hull in Europa

So the 7th place team wont be in europe
