To be honest, a banner would be embarrassing. A player of his intelligence is unlikely to make a decision based on 3 fans painting his name on an old bed sheet.

So the bloke who has brought a new level to White Hart Lane, the bloke who has helped us win our first trophy in years and helped to make us into a team that the rest of the Premiership is always calling a "Top 6" team is being criticised because he wants to take it to another level.

He has given us 3 fantastic years, he has been the class that we haven't had for so long and is one of the best players I've seen play at White Hart Lane in a Spurs shirt, yet for some reason half our fans seem to want to call him a **** and boo him, this is why Spurs fans have a reputation of being fickle and are generally disliked by many, and I can't blame them!

As much as he throws strops, gets easily annoyed and gets lost in games, he is a fucking class player who has taken us to a new level and for that, we should give him a decent send off and when he returns in the future, he deserves applause because he has given us so much.

How many thought he would play for us last season? Not many I don't think, he comitted another season to try and get us to the level he wanted us at and it didn't work, he now feels its time to go possibly, good luck to him and I hope he wins the league every season for Man Utd while he's there!

Well, your point is slightly undermined by the fact that he's been with us for two years (and one game) not three years.

How many of us thought he would play for us last season? Well, me for a start, given that he signed a contract that said he would do it. I'm not going to weep with gratitude that a player is still with Spurs a whole year after signing for us.

All of the fans who are saying that we should happily clap him on his way to Man Utd should ask themselves why he signed for us in the first place? He had the chance to sign for Man U when he left Leverkusen. He had the chance to sign for plenty of other clubs as well. He didn't do that. He signed for Spurs, knowing full well that we weren't in the CL and knowing the history of the club. Signing a long-term contract means that you want to play for a club long-term, not that you want to have a good couple of seasons and then decide you fancy playing elsewhere because actually, you've suddenly realised that the team you signed for isn't about to win the Champions League.

By all means, appreciate the skill and grace he shows on the field. But don't pretend that his attitude off the pitch is anything to applaud.
